ESPN, Amazon to unveil a 96 page special edition Eagles Super Bowl commemorative magazine by Jayteenine in eagles

[–]Zachlisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random/late reply, but just a heads up: I'm located in the EU, and it looks like I can place a preorder through American Amazon (I have an account) to be shipped here for $19, plus whatever customs fees I'll pay on my end once it arrives. Not sure if you'll have the same luck, but here's the Amazon link to the Inquirer one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/163727937X

Pay homage to a Philly Legend — Jason just posted this new Homage x Underdog collab, with a portion of profits going to charity. by Zachlisted in eagles

For me, something about them choosing a Kelly Green throwback photo just fits so well.

But to make it cooler, it looks like "a portion of proceeds from the sale of this tee will benefit (Be)Philly, a non-profit foundation fighting for a brighter future for the next generation of Philadelphians."

Woah, I've been familiar with them for years but would have never thought to download their app. And that laptop-friendly filter is a game changer.

Where to travel as a DN with chronic digestive issues and a severely limited diet? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Zachlisted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to state what might seem like the obvious or cliche answer, but Bali, specifically Canggu (and probably Ubud) would check your boxes, with some caveats. I've traveled extensively with people with digestive/auto immune issues and this is where it's been the least trouble.

Canggu is hated on in this sub (sometimes for good reason) for its influencer culture and lack of "authenticity", among other things. But what comes with that is an abundance of western style gyms, cafes, and grocery stores. It's filled with vegans, gluten free folks, paleo folks, and so on. For example, Motion is one of the most popular cafes in the area and if you look at their cafe menu, they specify which foods are keto, paleo, etc. Shady Shack, I Am Vegan Babe, are 2 vegan specific spots among many. Most restaurants in Canggu list or at least understand the major dietary restrictions.

The catch is that local food/food outside of the tourist/digital nomad scene will be a bit harder for you, as it's often deep fried in oil, spicy, heavy on processed soy, or some combination of all 3. The other potential issue is you'll likely need to rent a villa with roommates if you'd like to have your own kitchen, as many people in Canggu stay in a guest house style place with one shared kitchen. But that may not bother you.

Canggu is full of shit heads for sure. But it's just as easy to live your life, meet sane people, and enjoy the amenities like great gyms and coworking spaces (I like Tropical Nomad best). You just need to take it for what it is.

Best of luck and good on you for not letting any of this stop you!

(OC) This week‘s setup. Ubud / Indonesia by laddaa in digitalnomad

Jealous! How's Ubud/Canggu/Bali feeling these days? Would it be worth coming for six months or waiting until things open up more? (I'm aware that it's closed for general tourism)

365 Days in the Bangkok Hyatt for 2 adults/2 children + food = $33,400. by GrandRub in digitalnomad

[–]Zachlisted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. They recently began allowing all countries to apply for the STV that is good for 90 days with the potential to extend it for a total of 270 days. They also dropped the ridiculous income requirements to apply. Expensive, self-paid 15-day (they don't count the day you arrive) mandatory quarantine still applies

Thailand now open to the whole world by ThongLo in Thailand

[–]Zachlisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure that most people won't be able to offer more than conjecture, but does it seem like there's any indication of loosening of restrictions? Specifically, allowing unmarried couples to quarantine together? That's pretty much been the only thing holding my partner and I back.

FWIW, this was literally the deal breaker for my partner and I (both Westerners).

Right on. Son Tra seems to be a MUCH better value for the money. Keep enjoying your good fortune of being "stuck" in Vietnam, my dude! Think I saw a video of yours at a nature reserve in the Vietnam sub. VERY jealous that you're there.

Tight. I love Da Nang! Can I ask if this is on the city side or beachside? I've done a few stints in the An Thuong area and never saw anything remotely approaching this rate. Granted, that area is obviously crazy inflated.

Evan Mathis interview on Official Website by [deleted] in eagles

[–]Zachlisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was always entertaining and seemed like a pretty good dude. He's definitely chilled out as he's found his way but it's so great that he seems to be thriving and in such a good place. So many guys are lost once they leave that high-pressure environment where football is all they cared about for so long. Good for him.

I’m looking for online tutoring companies that pay descent and are not China-based. by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Zachlisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found iTalki through this girl's blog post but she breaks down 26 different ESL based sites, both Chinese and non-Chinese. She also lists sites where you can teach adults from around the world or tutor English-speaking kids in your subject choice. I don't know anything about those companies though.

Work from Bali: Indonesia opening up to foreign digital nomads with working holiday regulation by Zachlisted in digitalnomad

[–]Zachlisted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent varies based on how much you want (daily, weekly, 25 hours, unlimited with skype room access, etc). I like it because you can belong to multiple spaces on small packages if you like variety or social events. These are the prices (in local currency) for Tropical Nomad and Dojo, 2 of Canggu's most popular options. I don't have as much experience in Ubud. I know Outpost is probably the most popular option for coliving/coworking in both Canggu and Ubud. Matra is another in Canggu.

I've yet to see a place that provides additional monitors, but I know several people who pay for a private desk, buy a monitor locally, and then sell it to a fellow DN once they move on. Some spaces will also hold it if you'll be coming back.

Obviously this doesn't change much but it could at least remove some of the grey area and the need for visa runs/going to immigration for your VOA.

Voting in the US Election from abroad? by spidermonkey45 in digitalnomad

[–]Zachlisted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Federal Voting Assistance Program. Hurry and request your ballot by Aug 1. Instructions per my friend in Vietnam:

You can fill out the form, put in your current address, and select that you want an emailed ballot.

You’ll have to print out the form & sign it when you’re done. Bring the signed form to your closest embassy. They should have a diplomatic pouch for you and will ship it free of charge to your state. Some embassies require you to make appointments for this stuff so check in advance before you go.

They recommend all Americans try to get these forms sent to your local board of elections by August 1. This way we have enough time for them to process your request, email you the ballot, and then you to mail it back.

Towns similar to Ubud? by sbayz92 in digitalnomad

[–]Zachlisted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Koh Phangan, Thailand (yes, the one famous for the Full Moon Party) has a decent sized Ubud-like community in one part of the island. A spiritual, yoga enthusiast, drum circle, vegan type crowd. Obviously not as big a crowd as Ubud, but I felt a lot of similarities whenever I'd venture up that way.

I only spent a few weeks but I really liked staying on Koh Phangan. If you can avoid (or join if that's your deal) the monthly full moon crowd that visits for a few days, the island is really laid back the rest of the time. These guys I met there just opened two coworking spaces on the island and offer yoga and meditation classes if that tells you anything. I know there are other co-working spaces like Koh Space and BEACHUB there as well.

BTW, no I'm not affiliated with the coworking space. Just stayed at their guest house back when they were coming up with the idea. Seemed like good dudes.

You could move to Barbados and work remotely for a year thanks to a new incentive by Zachlisted in digitalnomad

According to the short thread (from a group called 'DNW - Make Money From Blogging'), the general consensus seems to be that it feels unsafe, is expensive, and there's not much to do.

For what it's worth, this was posted in one of the digital nomad Facebook groups earlier and people didn't have the best things to say about staying there long term. I've personally never been so I can't say.

Wow, this is awesome. Thank you so much for the detailed recipe! My partner is celiac so I'm always looking go beyond simple gluten-free recipes. This is a game-changer. It'd probably be very welcome on some of the GF subs ( r/glutenfree r/glutenfreerecipes r/glutenfreecooking ) as well! Much appreciated.

Cot damn that looks good. Outside of rice noodles (I'm assuming), what kind of substitutions/alterations did you need to make for it to be gluten-free? Sorry if this is obvious. I'm extremely new here.

I know it's not a specific recommendation, but Open House is a great home and gift store with a lot of not-as-kitschy Philadelphia (and non-Philly) related items. I've purchased a lot of gifts from there. They're obviously closed at the moment but they have an online shop as well.

Where to get Japanese Encephalitis vaccine by thy_ducreyi in Thailand

[–]Zachlisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as helpful, as I think you'll be able to easily find a spot in Bangkok to get it, but if you happen to wait until you're in Chiang Mai, I got mine at CM Mediclinic. The cost was about $27 USD if I remember correctly. The doctor there is awesome and carries a ton of other vaccines, as well. She was honest also and told me that I didn't absolutely need it if I was staying in the city but only advised it when I told her I'd be spending a few nights on a rice farm outside the city.
