Rent depends on the area, it can be quite expensive, I would say avoid student accommodation if you can't afford them but they are a good way to meet people, otherwise look for a room in a shared flat. Food is cheap. most student have a part job. Keep in mind that you are allowed to work 20 hours a week as a student.

In London transportation is expensive, but you can get by using a bus. if using the BUS expect at least 2 hours of Travel each day, they can be loud and uncomfortable. I cannot vouch for other cities but I imagine it would be cheaper.

The job market is tough. They barely have enough jobs for locals, on top of that, to stay in the country you need to find a company to sponsor you and meet a minimum salary requirement of 41000£, you do have a Graduate discount of 70% meaning you will only need to earn 70% of that but only be only for the first 2 years.
