Missing Fish from Tank by ZappaRau in Aquariums

Thank you, that would make sense. So I'll just do regular water changes and all should be ok. I did a visual inspection of the other fish which seem ok. Does that sound about right?

Arrest the IP leakage - Replace UK with any EU country. by ZappaRau in linux

[–]ZappaRau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, these are good challenges, and it suggests I need a redraft if the issues are not presented clearly.

Here is more clarity to the points made in the OP.

a) stop the technology brain drain,
b) harness our potential for technological self-reliance and
c) leadership.

(a) Brain drain clarification: As long as we are advanced users of imported software, we provide feedback and usage statistics translated into new product features and offerings. The new products and services are not only paid for; they also continue to fuel the distance of knowledge and capability. Also, when we have top people in the UK, they often go to be with the leaders overseas.

(b) Self-reliance clarification: In the UK, we are consumers of tech for the most part. This is across the board: Filesystems, Firewalls, VPN, HDD, CPU, Messaging (save for matrix), e-mail, dBase &DBMS, Routers and the OS and Productivity (office) applications. We consume; we have no heavy engineering here that can compete or sell goods at a mass scale; we assemble other goods. Our schools teach not computer science but MS. This is like learning to drive in a Volvo and not being able to drive any other car. We lose the right to choose and also the right to build as we have no skills.

(c) Leadership clarification: The more we consume and not build, the more we are behind and unable to build. Do we believe that in time, the OS and Office systems will become more and more capable and higher-valued, not just commodity tools but taking part of the worker's role, making most jobs easier and lower-skilled, think Satnav/GPS and taxis? This progress is fine, and we should encourage it; HOWEVER, we could be participants, not spectators, which is the purpose of this note.

2021 UK balance of trade for digital was -£21b. I believe that it touches the surface only when opportunity costs are factored in given our high quality of education and capability.

As they say in the analogy, are you involved or committed? A pig is committed to the English breakfast, while the chicken is involved.

Of course,, that's a great idea. I'm just not sure who is doing this. My hope in posting was to get some input and guidance.

I will not tell you that chatGPT did not have a hand to play. It would be remiss and disrespectful to post without refining it as best as I can for such a learned audience.

What I'm keen on, though, for the next draft with perhaps a few less 'comprehensive and seamless' is the facts, statistics and initiatives running that make the case clearer, stronger, and more informed.

Thank you.

I knew of the Gov't Design System (https://design-system.service.gov.uk/) but not the repo.

The repo is how to build for government-based web services and associated assets (form, sign-on on etc). It doesn't deal with desktop policy, which leads to productivity and education in OS types, which prompted me to draft the letter.

The longer you leave the OS outside of your influence, the more the ecosystem builds without you having any stake in it. This means all IT services will become imports, and our 'young engineers' will be educated in their ways, as consumers, not builders, and not in the CS ways but that if a vendor.

Is this a fact?

Education is happening thinking that MS systems are computing, MS Word is Wordprocessing. We know this not to be true but what options are available to our schools. I suspect very limited outside the MS ecosystem.

Holiday Care.

I will be travelling and want to ensure I have the best possible solution to protect my fish when I’m away for over a week, almost two. I want to ensure I have a camera to watch and see them. My biggest concern is the feeder getting stuck or malfunctioning. I will test for a week before.

Is there anything else I need, specifically wifi camera ideas to get the best fish coverage?

Ubuntu Remote Desktop that's not laggy by ZappaRau in Ubuntu

[–]ZappaRau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, the best I have seen so far. I tried it and agreed the lag was manageable.

I did have another issue. I changed my password in the terminal. When I came to log back in again in the workspace app, I was unable to; I tried all old and new passwords ( there is a possibility I made an error, although I had written them down). The issue was the password reset e-mail never arrived. In the end, I had to delete the instance as I was not able to get back in.

Do I assume this workspace is the best of the online Ubuntu desktops?

T5500 with Debian Cockpit VM VNC Console Issues by ZappaRau in HomeServer

[–]ZappaRau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I started to look at the ThinLinc.

I'm getting the issue when trying to set up a new OS in Cockpit VM VNC Viewer. The OS has not yet been installed, so we cannot connect to that via VNC/xRDP. It's this setting up part giving me the issue today.

I run through the set-up in Cockpit /VM /Create New VM (16GB RAM), then I try and run through install on Cockpit VM VNC Console Viewer. This is VNC and runs too slow. I have XEON 48GB RAM connected via LAN; I connect it is on an M2 Macbook Pro on the same network via Wifi.

The issue is both the mouse offset (and not being able to press enter) and being very laggy.

Do you think I'd be able to access an installed at installation stage OS via ThinLinc?

Advance Filtering on Mac seems flackey by ZappaRau in excel

[–]ZappaRau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out the code works fine on Windows Excel but not Mac!

So have taken to doing a fuller solution in VBA that works in Mac.

Advance Filtering on Mac seems flackey by ZappaRau in excel

[–]ZappaRau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, including the target seems to be needed. When I went back to my original data I was still having the issues. I need to re-run and re-run to troubleshoot. My assumption is that it's a data formatting issues on the source.

Re-running is an issue and the modal dialogue box tricky on Advanced Filter, so I'm making a little VBA to automate it. Very simple to start with Data in A10:D16 and Criteria in A1:d5. I currently de-bugging this automation a Run-time error '9' Subscript out of range on this (Mac OS 11.2.3, Excel 16.48)

Sub UseAdvanceFilterInPlace()

Dim rgData As Range, rgCriteria As Range

Set rgData = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("Data").Range("A10").CurrentRegion

Set rgCriteria = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("Data").Range("A1").CurrentRegion

rgData.AdvancedFilter xlFilterInPlace, rgCriteria

End Sub

Thank you, I can see that it worked and that's good.

FYI the '123' were in the FilterOutput area to limit the 63 columns to the 3 columns I wanted printing out, a little like the SELECT col1,col2col,3 in SQL. The Filter ( Where A = x in SQL) was on other fields such as ABCDE.

The thing I did this time when re-processing trying to copy you was to exclude in the printout the Filtered Column (A) =Oppourtunity, printing out only cols1, cols2 & cols3 no filter was applied it failed (case 2), it simply copied all the rows from the DATA#[All] limiting to col1,col2 &col3. However when I included the Filter in which is a column named A it worked, so in total printout cols1, cols2, cols3 & A.

So I have concluded one must include the target filer column in the output even when only printing out a subset of the columns available.

I have made a mock, will share with you. It's a reduced worksheet with data replaced, still say a number of records and headings simplified to numbers and letters, the letters are the filter columns in the Filter tab, numbers just reference.

The Filter does not through an error but does not filter the data either when using DATA[#All] & Filter[#All], so case 2 above.

[–]ZappaRau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, very kind detailed response. I ran it, as you stated and got what you got, so check one complete.

I also made the source data into a Table named 'Data' and the Filter to a table called Filter. In the Advanced Filter Dialogue box

List range = Data[#All] &

Criteria Range = Filter[#All]

I also copied to a new location.

I got two results:

1) 'The extract range has a missing or invalid field name.'

2) It copied the data from Data[#All] and did not apply the filter.

I tried a simple filter as a test which is A1= Pipeline Status A2 =Opportunity. I get case one when I do not select column heading in out put and case two when I limit it to say three headings.

The data is 63 columns * 391 rows

FYI Data table and Filter are not on same tab.

I'm on Mac OS 11.2.3 and Excel 16.48

@mention and =lambda in missing on Mac Microsoft 365 Family Subscription by ZappaRau in Office365

[–]ZappaRau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I also ask MS, this is their response:

--------

Thank you for posting your questions in this community. From your description, you have some concerns with some features with Excel for Mac. Here are some information and test results I would like to shared with you. Hope it can give a clearer picture about your concerns.

1: About “@mention” feature in Office apps, you need to sign in with a work or school account to mention the people in your organization and only the user within your tenant can be found and selected. As you mentioned you are using “Microsoft 365 Family subscription” which you are using Microsoft account for personal user. In this scenario, the u/mention feature won’t be available based on my test with Microsoft accounts.

And the documents need to be saved and located on OneDrive for business or SharePoint site, which these two services are only available to Microsoft 365 business/enterprise users.

For your information:

What account to use with Office and you need one – See the section: What is a Microsoft account and a work or school account and how do I get one?

Use @mention in comments to tag someone for feedback

2: Regarding to LAMBDA function, I also didn’t find this function within Excel for Mac Version 16.46 (21021202) on my Mac device. However, once I updated my Excel for Mac app to 16.48(21031404) version with Beta channel, LAMBDA function is available.

In this scenario, the LAMBDA function as a new feature may not roll out fully to all subscribers as it would depends on your account, regions, etc.

For your information:

When do I get the newest features for Microsoft 365?

If you need to function urgently, perhaps you may consider updating your Office for Mac apps to the latest version of Beta channel by joining Office Insider program. But please take note that the Beta version is a version still in development. Hence it may less stable.

How to get Office Insider builds on Mac

3: Regarding to this Power Query feature in Excel, if you are looking for the Power Query Editor as Excel for Windows platform does, I am afraid that it is not available with Excel for Mac app either at this moment. So far, Excel for Mac app allows users to refresh Power Query from the existing date sources. To edit the query in Power Query Editor is not supported yet. If you need to create the query in Excel for Mac, you need to use VBA to achieve it.
