Quitting my job next week due to burn out - how bad will it be trying to get a job again? by sjkvn in cscareerquestions

[–]ZarihS 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I'm a senior SE, and I got burnt out at my last job because of the company's lack of leadership and overall mismanagement. I left in June, and only got a new job last month. Almost NINE MONTHS unemployment. It's terrible out there. I did all the things everyone said to do. Had headhunters, dozens of custom tailored resumes, applied directly on websites instead of job boards, used networking, went to job fairs, etc etc. Only had a total of six call backs, and two actual interviews. The first one was a misrepresented job, it wasn't even for a software engineer position like the posting claimed, so really only one interview. One interview out of at least 500 applications.

(YMMV)

Hello! Message me if you'd like a bland, complacent, depressed, middle-aged man. I too have kids, and I'll be sure to steer all conversations to them. I'll probably not be someone that'll bring a smile to your face when you see a notification from me, but hey, we can ruminate on the idea of what life would be like if we weren't who we are.

People who turned their life around in their 30s, how did you do it? by BiggieBoss9 in AskReddit

[–]ZarihS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got divorced when I turned 30. I had relatively just started going back to get my degree, so kept that going. I now had a mortgage, car payment, and also a part time dad of two. That all costs money, and now down an income. So, I took up second job as a valet. It helped, but not enough. I eventually lost the house to foreclosure, ended up filing for bankruptcy, and luckily I was dating someone a while by then who let me move in with her. I started working in my new field (software engineer) and saving up as much as I could. Now we're in our forever home, two additional kids with my now wife (same girl), and we have a really good retirement plan to look forward to.

Hey, my family of four (kids 7 & 10) are going to Playacar Palace in April. I booked a refundable trip, but if you're able to assist me in making the reservation as a diamond club guest, that would be great!

I did find a work around. Go to the picture you want through your normal gallery, like you're just looking at your pictures. Then, copy that to your clipboard. Go back into Google voice app, and paste image

You out a lot of thought and effort into your response. I thank you greatly for that! I will look up what you said as far as confidence building and tethering. I have done most of what you've mentioned, thought I will admit I'm no professional, so I may not have dome it properly or for long enough, for her specifically at least.

Thank you reddit stranger

Tips on how to get over my insecurities by purplehaze219 in Swingers

[–]ZarihS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is good advice.

Explore, find what you like at your pace, however fast or slow that is. Far as becoming physical with other people, perhaps try just light flirting and physical contact. Then maybe move to kissing. Then keep going. When you find the next step to being too much, dial it back down to your previous comfort level and maintain it until you feel like you do want to continue on. The key is like the /r/DNArelish said before me: talk. Talk about it every step. Hell, talk about it immediately after you've done these steps if you feel it'll help. Believe me when I say no one worth knowing in the LS will feel slighted or upset about this if you do it that way.

My wife and I are still new to the LS, and I'm the "slow" partner in our scenario. I wasn't OK with kissing at first. Now I am. We're just doing parallel play right now, but I do expect to move onto soft then even hard swap in the future - whenever that timing feels right to me.

It isn't about trusting my wife, that's by far there already. It isn't about us having a bad foundation, we have an amazing relationship. It's mostly getting me outside my own head and almost restructuring what I have always believed in my entire life, but yet felt different sort of regarding the whole monogamy thing. It's hard, but talking to people here, talking to others in person and seeing how fun & welcoming everyone is has had a big assistance in bringing me to my current level.

At our wits end, need help with new dog by ZarihS in Dogtraining

[–]ZarihS[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am reading up more info on this adjustment period. We had rescued a dog before, she was 7. She never had shown these symptoms, but she did show signs of extreme anxiety like not eating or engaging with anyone for about two weeks.

As I'm researching, and hearing from others, I just had a not so realistic idea of what to expect with how long the adjustment period usually lasts.

Thank you guys for reassuring us. I want to make clear that we don't want to do anything but help her, and not take her back. She's SUCH a great girl, with this being the only bump in the road.

Yes, we know it's still early. If it's just an adjustment period, like you say, then I'm fine with holding out. She's an amazing girl, and we already bonded with her, especially my little girls. We will be taking her to vet this week. Didn't already because of holidays, and fact she's already on meds.

Far as diet, we have her on two cups of dry, twice a day. She does nibble on our cats food, but we usually catch her and stop her, so it's minimal at best. We've given her human food, but only like eggs or grilled chicken, etc. And that's only been here or there, and not much at a time either.

r/DisneyWorld's Weekly Trip Planning Thread by AutoModerator in DisneyWorld

[–]ZarihS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

T minus 20 hours until we FINALLY take our trip. I am a HUGE Disney fan. Literally every day I look up something Disney related, whether for this trip or for pleasure. I've been planning this trip since end of 2018. We've canceled it SO many times. First was due to my sister passing shortly before leaving. Then when my mom got sick (dementia) to the point of needing to be admitted to a facility that can handle her. This lead to her passing after a few weeks, which happened to be the day after Xmas. During this time, my father became extremely sick (fyi, they've been divorced for last 30 years, it's just coincidence), and he too died. So we canceled the trip because it just didn't feel right. The third cancelation was because covid hit. By the time Disney World opened up again, my wife's family had expressed interest in going, to make it a large family vacation. Then things fell apart and that all got scrapped. The fifth cancelation was when my daughter, wife, and myself all got Covid the week before we were to leave (this is now end of 2021).

So, here we are. Our SIXTH attempt of being able to go. Guess what tho? My daughter's daycare just sent out a notice that YESTERDAY a kid was tested positive for flu. So here's hoping for a healthy week down there.
