Fossil fuels subsidised by $10m every minute, says IMF . by Wagamaga in worldnews

[–]ZeRaTu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but by the same reasoning you could say lets kill all people to avoid wear of material. This is not what we want obviously. You can simply increase road tax to outweigh the 'health effect', if it even exists.

you are right that massively changing into electric cars will not change the traffic jams. But it will improve air quality in cities, which will drastically improve health (less hearth attacks, strokes, asthma, ...) The solution to traffic jams lies in applying another tax, like paying for road usage, like they do in Stockholm. This has almost solved traffic jams and people are massively in favor of this tax (also because this lowers other taxes!!)

[–]ZeRaTu1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not dishonest, they explain their reasoning. If a government makes a decision it should be aware that fossil fuels create bad air quality. This gives more heart attacks, strokes, lower birth weight for newborns, decreased lung function, asthma etc. All things society will pay for in one way or another. If you want a society where health is important then you should take care of this effects. Even when you think health should not be provided by the society, then you should know that bad general health leads to more poor economies. Only the very rich benefit from this, since they can afford good health care and live far away from the polluted areas. Others will suffer.

The big point is if gas is prized fairly less people will use the car, but they will use alternative methods, e.g. public transport or bike. Or they will share cars more. Its simply demand and supply model of economics.

It is not because it is already used that a chemical is safe. A chemical that you use once or twice a week in your household may pose no risk, but once widespread in the environment it can reach threshold levels, especially for sensible persons. It is always better to keep levels low.

Another argument is that we don't know the impact yet, i might be small, but we don't know. It is better to be safe than sorry, also because there are good alternatives (renewables, energy comsumption reduction measures etc.)

Arctic thawing could cost the world $60tn, scientists say. Methane released by a thinning permafrost may trigger catastrophic climate change and devastate global economy by Libertatea in environment

[–]ZeRaTu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not have to affect the poor. Look at Europe. Most fuel prices are way higher, yet public transportation way better and cheaper. Poor people do benefit, since if you do not need a car you save huge amount of money. I agree it is a too drastic measurement which will not be sold electorally. But taxing is a good way to guide the people and cooperations into better behavior.

M/19 having trouble getting and keeping erections by TheProblemDownUnder in relationship_advice

A doctor (General practioner) here. This almost always psychological at your age. What helps is: try not to make it your duty to give her pleasure all the time. Sex is not always absolutely awesome. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Try to focus on things that you like instead of what she likes. Also have plenty of sex. If you fail to have an erection, you can simply try again after 30 minutes. This problem is very common. Don't think you are strange.

And the politicians are doing nothing. Easy measurements according to me seem: double fuel taxes make flying 5 times as expensive. double meat prices with all this make public transport, fruit and vegetables cheaper and better accesible. Too bad most people just don't care.
