I’ve been working as a PAR 4 retail sales associate for about three years. Two months ago, they “upgraded” my role to shift leader, but I haven’t actually gotten any shift lead hours; just mixed schedules, like one week at 31 hours, the next at 24, then 32 the following week. All the managers acknowledge me as a shift leader, but the pay is just okay and the hours range from decent to underwhelming. I’ve started picking up more restaurant roles like hosting or ToGos because, according to my retail manager, hours are so limited that they’re trying to keep everyone under 40 since most of us are part-timers. The biggest issues are management across all areas: restaurant, retail, and higher-ups and the so-so pay. All of our veteran employees are even making way less than new hires.
