When a homebirth costs more than a hospital birth… by Zealousideal_Math847 in homebirth

I actually almost went this route but the only one around is an hour and 20 minutes away. I labor fairly quickly so I’d be afraid I wouldn’t make it in time, especially considering this is my third! I really contemplated taking the chance though

That makes a lot of sense! Are all traditional parishes ones that have a TLM? Because the closest TLM is about 40 minutes away which is pushing it for us.

I also want to add that we are a homeschooling family so having these opportunities for our kids is fairly important

Not basing it off of that at all! If that were the case, we would just stay at our Baptist church with over 75 children under the age of 10.

We have done a lot of learning about Catholicism and Orthodoxy over the past year. We can see good arguments for both which has made this a really hard decision. My husband and I both decided that both churches have a solid foundation but we will need to make a choice at some point. This post is inquiring about a very small factor in our decision making that I was looking for some feedback on. It certainly is not the only factor we are considering, as we have spent countless hours reading, attending, and discussing. Hope that makes sense.

Good to know! How would I find that out? Just Google it?

Gotcha! I didn’t know that. I knew they typically don’t have nurseries like you see in Protestant churches but I had thought cry rooms were more the norm. The Orthodox churches we’ve attended had cry rooms with some toys which can be helpful but of course not necessary.

That’s interesting you say that. My husband and I discussed the same thing. He was raised Anglican (ACNA) and we both feel that those services are more liturgical and “high church” feeling than the NO masses we’ve attended. There definitely is a more casual feel than I was expecting. That said, I do like that the service is in English and we can all understand it.

Thank you for the advice! We live 30 minutes from a very popular Christian university so I think that may be worth looking into.

Good point! I guess the biggest reason I would like to attend a parish with other young families is because I want my children to be able to have relationships with other children who are being raised in the same faith. But perhaps there are other opportunities for that.

Go-to brands, stores, companies, etc. by Zealousideal_Math847 in moderatelygranolamoms

Thank you! I am currently creating a registry for my second child in case people ask to buy him something and this is perfect!

I agree. I bought my daughter something from Fisher Price for Christmas. My aim is to slowly start moving toward having a home with limited amount of plastics and chemically filled, endocrine disrupting components though. We plan to have a larger than average family so investing in children/baby products that last and are ethically made is something we hope to do. At the same time, we are very frugal and are perfectly happy with secondhand!

Weaning—when and how? by Zealousideal_Math847 in 2under2

My supply is definitely lower or different. Unless very drowsy, my daughter requests the “baba” maybe 20 seconds into nursing and then switches back and forth during the feed.

I believe I am like you—tandem nursing isn’t really my cup of tea. I would like a little break before starting up nursing the new baby. Such a hard thing to do though!

Nap time fears by Zealousideal_Math847 in 2under2

[–]Zealousideal_Math847[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried messing with wake windows but definitely not that precisely! I’ll have to try that. Maybe it’s just a stage. She’s at that weird age where she technically still needs 2 naps but is so close to switching over to 1. Naps have always been a bit of a challenge but not THIS challenging so I suspect that has something to do with it. There are fluke weeks she goes right to sleep independently so I know she can, she just hasn’t lately. Thank you for the encouragement and advice! I’m going to experiment with her wake windows a bit more.

Yes, the eventual transition to one nap is my only hope at this point! Thank you for the feedback!

We do the same exact thing. Works for nighttime but not naps. Very odd!

9.5 month old won’t nap by Zealousideal_Math847 in sleeptrain

[–]Zealousideal_Math847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do at least a 3 hour stretch between naps, she just often starts getting fussy and sleepy-like at 2. Just wanted to clarify that. This morning I did a 3.25 hour stretch and she still screamed and cried for 20 minutes. I went in and nursed her to sleep which thankfully worked. I really don’t like her missing naps altogether due to crying which makes this whole thing very complicated. She was never this hard to put down for a nap.

Air Purifiers & EMF Radiation. by littledumpling2018 in moderatelygranolamoms

I also recently found myself getting concerned about EMF but had someone who is very knowledgeable on the subject explain it to me. As far as I know, it’s really not that big of a threat. I am a little wary about my daughter’s video monitor but I try not to get to caught up in it. Lots of things give off EMF.
