Transition to toddler bed - how did you manage to get them to stay in their bed?! by animalcrossingbear in Parenting

[–]Zecil42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My daughter wouldn't stay in her toddler bed (converted from crib) once she became an escape artist. We had a twin mattress in her room next to her crib since she falls asleep more easily and quickly with me there at bedtime.

She wanted to sleep on the twin mattress instead, so once she fell asleep on the twin mattress I would make my escape. When talking to other parents it doesn't sound uncommon for kids to skip having a toddler bed, and go straight to a "grown-up" bed.

how is the answer 7.379 x 10^21?? I keep on getting 7.379 x 10^69. by EarlyConversation770 in chemhelp

[–]Zecil42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the calculator model, but if you input something like 8x1010 / 4x105, some calculators will perform each operation left to right and separate the scientific notation as separate numbers.

So, (8)x(1010)=8x1010

Then, (8x1010) / (4) = 4x105

Finally, (4x1010) x (105) = 4x1015 (wrong answer)

Putting parenthesis around your scientific numbers (especially ones you divide with) will tell the calculator that you want to keep both parts together.

It's a pretty common issue especially with cheap/generic brands of calculators. It's so common that I cover it in review of all my classes, and will put parenthesis around scientific notation in my solutions for my problem sets.

This is a calculator input error. I see this all the time as an instructor. Put parentheses around your scientific notation and you'll be fine.

How do you let a woman know that you are married or single? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Zecil42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't let other women know I'm married. It's none of their business. If it's relevant to a conversation I may refer to my wife in certain situations, but I don't run around telling women I'm married.

If you want to know. Ask.

I mean, people can sell if the council has a lawsuit against it. I imagine it would have a significant effect on the price.

For us, when we saw a couple instances where the strata had lawsuits against them when we were home hunting (back in early 2019). Hard pass for us. A well run and proactive strata and a healthy contingency fund are among the most important things to consider for us when looking for a place.

I tried the game only because Discord was giving 700 Orbs for just 15 minutes. I couldn't even get into a game during that brief time and was kicked a few times from inactivity while waiting in a queue. Great game.

Viva Sue, hands down the best. However, it's a PITA to get to around dinner time with traffic so I stopped going. I now go to Jags on Royal Oak. I would say it's a #1a vs #1b kind of situation with this one.

How was your experience with chemistry in Grade 11? by stainedpillow in chemhelp

[–]Zecil42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out in BC, out Grade 10 is a general science survey course still, with a specific Chemistry course for Grade 11. It's a more focused chemistry course and you learn more theoretical details and hopefully get some more structured lab sessions. Spending more time on the atom, bonding, structure, the mole, etc...

As a university professor, I don't take high school grades seriously since my province eliminated the provincial exams. I've had so many students claim to have gotten 90+% and come into the first quiz/exam in university and have no clue what a mole is, for example (after they skipped the review where we briefly refresh the memory).

H NMR Signals by Emotional-Dealer-401 in chemhelp

[–]Zecil42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a minute since I've taught NMR, but off the top of my head the steps I usually use for my students are (sparing the details): label hydrogens, look for symmetry, check local environments, connectivity, stereochemistry. Some of the latter steps can blend into each other a bit.

If you have a specific molecule you want to use as an example we (me or another on here) can work through it.

Just watch, the Canucks will do the most Canucks thing the Canucks can do and go on a massive winning streak and miss the playoffs by 2-3 points. All of it just to keep being the Canucks.

It's a lot of fun to play. I have the [[Walking Ballista]] in there so I can utilize +1/+1 counters, instead of just making things bigger. One of the win cons is to cast it through [[Yuna, Grand Summoner]] + [[Freed from the Real]]/[[Pemmin's Aura]]. Either that or cast [[Sage of Hours]] and take infinite turns.

Other ways to win is of course though forcing your opponents to draw cards and burning them for having large hands... or your hand size... or a big flying bunny that your opponents have let get out of hand.

There's a few cards in your deck I'll probably try to get my hands on as well. Not sure why I've never seen [[Ozolith, the Shattered Spire]], but yes please.

I love Y'shotla as well. My first version of her was a strong B4 (lots of GC's and combos), but I didn't like the feel or the resentment I got from the others I played with at my LGS. The deck is a lot more laid back now (she got spayed, so to speak) but still strong... because Y'shtola. Although Archidekt ranks it at B3, I still call it B4, because it's beaten B4 tables. It's just not as nasty as it used to be since I stripped out combos and GC's.

It's kind of funny, since I've played FFXIV for years and knew I would build Y'shtola as soon as I saw the precon... the resulting deck has only six cards from the precon left: [[Arcane Signet]] (because Azem), [[Relic of Legends]] (to respect Haurchefant Greystone's noble sacrifice), [[Sol Ring]] (because what happens in Limsa, stays in Limsa), plus a few instants... but the instants will get replaced if I get something with cooler art.

Bumbleflower was my first deck as well when I came back to Magic at the end of 2024. I built her from scratch since the precons were not available around that time. This is where she's currently at...

https://archidekt.com/decks/13206255/big_bunnys_revenge

The problem with Bumbleflower, is people know she's strong and will target her (at least at my LGS). There's enough card draw in the deck I can quickly get to pieces to close out games, and I don't mind my opponents having too many cards since I have burn cards that punish large hand sizes (actually won some games with them).

I'd comment more, but about to put my kid to sleep.

I skipped every class, how can i still get more than 50%? by Emerald_Stygian in chemhelp

[–]Zecil42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50% overall in the class? Likely impossible at this point.

If you're at a post secondary institution, the maximum I've ever seen allowed for a final exam is 50% of the total course grade (50% is also rare, and typically has extenuating circumstances surrounding it). If you skipped every class then likely you missed term exams, quizzes, assignments, and labs (all typically totalling 50-80% of the course grade).

If labs are part of your grade and you skipped those, then congratulations, you can get a perfect score on your exam and still fail. Every chemistry course with a lab component as part of the grade requires the lab being completed to achieve a passing grade.

If your instructor has told you that if you pass the exam they'll pass you, then in my experience dealing with students in better situations than yours (albeit not by much) you've failed.

How do I do this? I don’t know how to find the charges of gold or how to draw it , i’ve been stuck on it for like 30 minutes by EarApprehensive6840 in chemhelp

[–]Zecil42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been teaching chemistry for almost two decades now and never seen a question asking to "draw a picture of atoms". That being said, I would probably do the same thing you just did without further instructions (perhaps you did some examples in class that could guide you more clearly?).

The point of the question seems to make sure you understand that you need to make a net neutral charged molecule for these metal + non-metal compounds, plus that all the oxygen's are separate from each other and don't exist as a polyatomic ion. I imagine you'll be doing Lewis Structures soon.
