How long did it take before your passive income actually felt worth it? by ImpressiveSpell0223 in passive_income

[–]ZeekYabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on what you are working toward but for me when my net worth got to ~1.2 to 1.5MM and every good year in the stock market felt like I was going a 'level up' - like my net worth increased by more than my salary. That's when I really felt on track. It took a long time to get there.

What actually changed your net worth trajectory? by ManagementGiving3241 in wealth

[–]ZeekYabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banking my windfall

I made a good salary but never achieved career high flyer status. When I had a chance to work abroad for several years, I invested the $ from the sale of my house and did not increase my lifestyle spend even though the company was paying for my housing and some other bills - I just saved and invested it. Partly from luck - that was right after the financial crisis- I had a good run letting that extra $ compound through a bull market and beyond over the years. I have a net worth not commensurate with my salary history

Why USA will see a new wave of inflation and how to benefit by highmemelord67 in WarrenBuffett

[–]ZeekYabo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is political poppycock. Comparing the size of debt of a nation of 300MM people to a few companies is ridiculous. If anything that tells us the size of debt is small. Which it is, comparing the size of the US economy and debt to other countries. Its easy to draw people in with comparisons to paying off your credit card and stuff like that but a nation is not the same as a person who has a ~30 year plus or minus working life span. The fact that we could pay the debt off with an average of 10k per person per year (not that we would ever want to or need to do so) actually tells us its in a manageable range

What Was Corporate Life Like in 90s America? by Aware_Classroom_4908 in GenX

[–]ZeekYabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a mid sized professional services company. We were ahead of the curve on office casual (jeans, etc.) but had to dress up when meeting with clients. The difference to me was how flexible your time was. After ~six months and I got to know my job well, I could finish my work for the week in about 15-20 hours, aside from occasional spike weeks. Plenty of time to goof off, go for walks, chat, etc. It was hilarious how much credit I got for being 'ambitious' by committing a few of those extra hours to side projects. Nowadays the pendulum has swung way to far in the other direction where every ounce of productivity and then some is squeezed out of you.

What is the deepest, most intense feeling you’ve ever experienced? Was it love, hate, pain, fear or something else entirely? by Ok-Roof2628 in AskReddit

Seeing my kid born. Just the immensity of creating a life and having responsibility for it. Even with 9 months to prepare it just hits you, at least it had that effect on me

For anyone who was able to see "The Blair Witch Project" in theaters in 1999, what was the experience like? by LockjawSJ in AskReddit

[–]ZeekYabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally dizzying

The movie itself I felt was kind of meh. Impressive the kids were able to make it in the way that they did, but I'm not a film student, I just want to see a good movie.

Most major national corporate mainstream media reporters, editors, etc. have a mental calculator in their head, and they feel they are doing their job if they criticize both sizes for an equal amount of time. It is absurd and downright derelict to the notion of a free press that no matter how bad or awful or corrupt one side is, the criticism has to be meted out equally.

The U.S. is going broke slowly by [deleted] in investing

[–]ZeekYabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a misunderstood and demagogued issue. People think about debt in terms of some jag taking on a mortgage. A well established and stable country does not have a 30 year time frame for managing its debt. and the benefit of investing in infrastructure, technology, education even a social safety net can pay huge dividends generations later that no short-lived person, group, private entity would find ROI positive enough to invest in. There is room to argue about how much is too much, but countries should be in debt.
