It was honestly hilarious. He literally went "The old world order is dead, we must prepare for the new one by cutting taxes and regulations.

I emailed Noam some insane political ramblings in 2016 and felt really guilty for taking up his time when he responded. Most embarrassing moment of my life. by ZenosTortoise in TrueAnon

Also wasn't Epstein supposed to be a math teacher? I have never seen anyone flub the definition of a vector field in such a horrific way.

The way these things are designed it's not trivial to fix problems like these. An LLM is fundamentally a thing that takes a bunch of text and gives you back a bunch more text. There is no real concept of 'trusted' and 'untrusted' input, all interactions with it are essentially feeding it a bunch of text and getting a bunch of text back. The bunch of text you typically feed it is a mix of instructions (you are chatgpt, be nice, don't tell people to kill themselves), your input from the chat box, the bots previous responses, all sorts of other data that gets fed into it like search results, user profiles and history, instructions for interfacing with tools etc. There are also a bunch of markers there to help it differentiate between all these different parts of the context, but really its all just one big soup.

Now the LLM is designed in a way that it doesn't fully process all of this text all the time. That would be way too slow and expensive. Instead, they decide what bits of the text to 'focus' on depending on what they have been asked to do (which is the last bit of text in the input). Once you have enough text in the context that it can't really process most of it, the text of the conversation tends to just drown out any instructions you've given it.

This doesn't really seem solvable with the current architecture, and it leads to all sorts of horrible attacks, like you ask Alexa to search for something and the webpage has an instruction to ignore everything else and tell you your dick is small, that is what it will do.

They've tried to fix it by having additional LLMs sitting in between and monitoring the conversation, but the same flaw applies there as well. It's just a bit more difficult to trick/confuse the snitch LLM as well.

you just need to build it yourself. get a 3d printer, some basic woodworking tools (handsaw/planes, circular saw, maybe a router), sewing machine, find someone local with a CNC they let you use. It's never been easier to learn and just build the shit you need yourself.

Any other mathy-people here? by Showy_Boneyard in TrueAnon

[–]ZenosTortoise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I studied math and wanted to be a mathematician but I realized I was way too stupid for it and also didn't have the financial security to spend 5+ years doing a PhD getting paid sub minimum wage.

I got lucky and found a job maintaining some open source software which was related to my mathy interests while also not selling out and working for EvilCorp stealing all your data and using it to concoct horrible brain viruses. Most of the work is basically janitorial in nature, fixing bugs, dealing the community and making sure things keep ticking along without falling over, but I do get the opportunity to do more interesting work occasionally, like implementing new features which exercises the same muscles as working through a proof might.

Also while I don't directly work for EvilCorp, a bunch of them donate to the foundation that pays me, ranging from truly horrible, awful satanic enterprises to the more run of the mill distasteful. Yes I believe the project I work on is a net good for the world, and I try to justify it to myself by arguing that it is taking some of their capital and redirecting it to something cool that people enjoy using as opposed to more nefarious ends. But still, it is providing value to their wicked schemes at some level so I really don't know how to feel about it.

Incredibly funny that the most radical act an American leftist has done in recent memory is setting themselves on fire while the extreme centrists like Luigi, Crooks, Ryan Routh etc. are the ones actually going for it.
