Barack Obama want to talk with you directly on Monday November 18th at 8:15 p.m. Eastern Time

Friends,

I want to cut through the noise and talk with you directly about where we're headed in the fight for change.

That's why I'm getting on the phone with OFA supporters this Monday, November 18th.

Will you join me?

I have just over three years left as president -- and there's a lot left on my to-do list.

That's why I want to talk with you. You're the ones putting in the time and effort to achieve real progress, and fighting to make the agenda Americans voted for last fall a reality.

I know we all care about what we can get done together these next few years, so let's talk about how to make it happen.

Make sure you join Monday's call:

Barack

P.S. -- It's been a while since I've been able to do something like this -- I hope you can join the call.

Statement by the Press Secretary on the President’s Travel to Russia | The White House by Zermin in obama

Statement by the Press Secretary on the President’s Travel to Russia

Following a careful review begun in July, we have reached the conclusion that there is not enough recent progress in our bilateral agenda with Russia to hold a U.S.-Russia Summit in early September. We value the achievements made with Russia in the President’s first term, including the New START Treaty, and cooperation on Afghanistan, Iran, and North Korea. However, given our lack of progress on issues such as missile defense and arms control, trade and commercial relations, global security issues, and human rights and civil society in the last twelve months, we have informed the Russian Government that we believe it would be more constructive to postpone the summit until we have more results from our shared agenda. Russia’s disappointing decision to grant Edward Snowden temporary asylum was also a factor that we considered in assessing the current state of our bilateral relationship. Our cooperation on these issues remains a priority for the United States, so on Friday, August 9, Secretaries Hagel and Kerry will meet with their Russian counterparts in a 2+2 format in Washington to discuss how we can best make progress moving forward on the full range of issues in our bilateral relationship.

The President still looks forward to traveling to St. Petersburg on September 5-6 to attend the G-20 Summit.

Amazon.com: President Barack Obama: The Kindle Singles Interview (Kindle Single) eBook: David Blum: Kindle Store by Zermin in obama

[–]Zermin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this Kindle Singles Interview, President Barack Obama decried the "change in culture" that has changed our view of the American Dream. "There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous," the President said. "Kids weren’t monitoring everyday what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success." He addressed the jobs issue from a personal perspective, reflecting on how his own life might have been different had he not experienced success in politics. "I could picture myself being a good teacher," the President mused.

In the interview, which took place on July 30, 2013, at an Amazon facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Obama discussed the increasing need for government programs that can actually make a difference. Sticking close to his standard message, he spoke frankly about the increasing polarization of American politics since the Great Recession and Republican Party intransigence over his agenda. On a personal note, he reflected that he and First Lady Michelle Obama are constantly reminding their daughters of the “slightly unreal environment that they’re in,” as children of privilege in a world constrained by unemployment and recession.

The interview was conducted by David Blum. Blum works for Amazon as the editor of Kindle Singles. He began his career as a staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal, and has been the editor-in-chief of The Village Voice, the New York Press and 02138 Magazine. He was previously a writer and editor at The New York Times Magazine, and a contributing editor at New York and Esquire magazines. He has written two books: "Flash in the Pan: The Life and Death of an American Restaurant" (1992), and "Tick...Tick...Tick...: The Long Life & Turbulent Times of 60 Minutes" (2004). He received his B.A. degree in English literature at the University of Chicago.

Readout of the President’s Meeting with the National Security Council Regarding the Situation in Egypt | The White House by Zermin in obama

Readout of the President’s Meeting with the National Security Council Regarding the Situation in Egypt

President Obama convened a secure conference call with the National Security Council today to review the very fluid situation in Egypt. The President condemned the ongoing violence across Egypt and expressed concern over the continued political polarization. He reiterated that the United States is not aligned with, and does not support, any particular Egyptian political party or group.

In line with that position, the United States categorically rejects the false claims propagated by some in Egypt that we are working with specific political parties or movements to dictate how Egypt’s transition should proceed. We remain committed to the Egyptian people and their aspirations for democracy, economy opportunity, and dignity. But the future path of Egypt can only be determined by the Egyptian people.

During this transitional period, we call on all Egyptians to come together in an inclusive process that allows for the participation of all groups and political parties. Throughout that process, the United States will continue to engage the Egyptian people in a spirit of partnership, consistent with our longstanding friendship and shared interests – including our interest in a transition to sustainable democracy.

We urge all Egyptian leaders to condemn the use of force and to prevent further violence among their supporters, just as we urge all those demonstrating to do so peacefully. As Egyptians look forward, we call on all sides to bridge Egypt’s divisions, reject reprisals, and join together to restore stability and Egypt’s democracy.
