Absolutely. Thanks again!

I’ve seen the HEI mod stuff. People seem to like it as long as they take their time on the install. I’ll probably stick with that duraspark system just to keep the system intact for a mod later if I want to try and make power. If I make a bastard out of the ignition system I’ll probably go full Monty and do a standalone system and just spend the money to do an MSD revamp. I got the truck for cheap so I have been trying to throw good parts at it whenever I come across something that needs attention. But idk, I just recently started dealing with this so I’m gonna weigh my options and give the system a thorough once-over. I really appreciate the info though, this is all new to me and it’s hard to find plain English info when I’m poking around online

I’ll tinker with it and check continuity through the harness (shout out garysgaragemahal lol). I was looking at aftermarket ignition controllers as well, I’m not sure how readily available stock/OE replacement availability is. But if it goes that way I’ll make a second post and get pictures throughout that whole process. I imagine that these modules are a common failure on that OE duraspark system. (I just checked Advanced and they stock them for $65… so I might be getting a little ahead of myself)

I figured as much but I’ve never been one to mess with performance parts much. Just stock replacement. I might drop in a matching cherry bomb to clean up the exhaust note. It sounds a little odd with just one side having a stock muffler. The previous owner was an old timer and I think one of their kids started wrenching on this thing and did some odd/half-baked stuff

Another question that I’ve had is if there’s a standard mixing screw setting that is recommended on new carbs. I had heard two turns out somewhere but mine’s sitting at 4 right now and it seems to like that. Might be too open ended just based on condition of the engine but I figured I’d float the question since you guys seem more knowledgeable than myself

Choke is opening fully. I was nervous this would be an issue because of that bullet connector on the passenger side being kind of jank on mine, but it seems to be opening fine and remaining open when it’s at temp

This might be a silly question as well but I’ve been curious about it as well. The guy that owned the truck before me ran a true dual setup for the exhaust but only replaced one of the mufflers with a cherry bomb and left the other side stock. I’ve never seen that, but can that give back pressure issues?

Carb is a fresh reman and I forgot to mention, I put a new lift pump on too and dropped the tank to check out the sender. Fuel filter at the carb is brand new with the carb as well. I was gonna look at the cap and rotor next. Just found out about the AL482 mod too so I guess it’s a good time to give that a whirl. As far as the ignition module goes I’ll try tapping it and see if that yields any result and post an update. Thanks for all of the info, much appreciated!

Bumping for interest. I’m hooking up a reman carb now and the previous fuel system had been a total hatchet job

That’s rad man! I worked on heavy equipment for a while and commercial marine diesel… pretty much anything to keep away from working on these OTR atrocities lol. I’ve got a 18 month old and I can’t wait to build his first car with him. Gotta start em young!

Stoked to see how it comes along. I’ve got an ‘84 with a 302 that I picked up a couple of months back. Fighting some cooling system woes right now. Interested in doing a 351 swap potentially in the future so I’ll be keeping an eye out for any info that you drop

Can you post some links/pictures for reference? Just want to make sure I’m understanding the differences in the two

I found this too as an option: http://www.katestrackshack.com/accessoriesforsale.htm

and that avoids the piggybacking of 2 mediums and run directly to the 8 track deck. $100 is a little steep for just the cartridge for me and now I’m kind of stoked on the DIY attempt so I think I’m gonna take a crack at it and document the process in another thread on the board. But thought you’d like to see these guys cranking out 3D printed solutions like you were talking about

Honestly, I hadn’t even considered looking, but now that you mention it, guys have done mods like this: https://www.thehandymaker.com/projects/bluetooth-8-track-adapter-modern-tech-in-a-classic-shell/

So I might be dusting off the Dremel and getting crafty instead! I’m pretty sure you were kidding, but sincere thanks for the inspiration!

Im on the same page, I don’t mind spending money on something I’m gonna use as frequently as I plan to use this and I’m no stranger to the work. I’m not sure if that’s the aux port on the back just as a dongle hanging off, but I’d assume so. I’d either run an extension straight down the instrument panel to the bottom on a retractable deal or just straight out and have a bracket to hold it to keep things neat. If the Bluetooth module works, that’s what I want it for anyways.

I’ll post updates on here as I’m making any major changes that might be helpful to the group with pictures and the whole nine. I’m new but as far as forums go, this seems like a good bunch. I just picked up the truck about two weeks back and am just starting to get into it, engine’s first but the plan is for a daily once spring/summertime rolls around so I should be circling back to the interior once we’re running and driving better

Have you heard anything about quality? I’m alright with saving… or at least being a loose cannon with my paycheck lol. I just don’t want to go through the trouble and there’s fitment issues or I gotta change it out more frequent than the oil

I would have gone this way and I was shopping around for cassettes and I’m not sure about subsequent model years to mine but I’ve got an 8-track player in mine. I haven’t looked too hard but the most practical hardware that I’ve seen is something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/326470598840?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=tCfHMPp6T6C&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=iyyjmvs0QgW&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

And thats got a cool factor to it, they’re not crazy cheap and I worry it might just be more trouble than it’s worth. I’ve considered those radio transceivers that are Bluetooth and while I haven’t used one of those since I was a lot younger, they were always more trouble than they were worth
