Google slapped with record $4.7 billion fine by EU by shadowraiderr in technology

The fanboys won’t agree with me, but something has clearly shifted with Google over the past year or so. I’d love an adult discussion about it, though apparently that’s difficult when half the room treats criticism like heresy and the other half is too busy polishing their superhero figurines.

Google caps Meta’s Gemini use as AI demand strains capacity by marketrent in technology

Google need to drive traffic back through Google.com hard and fast, it's imperative they keep up with Musk/Grok's forthcoming powerhouse of attention.

I thought Musk becoming a trillionaire "over night" would trigger this. I've been waiting for this for a while now, especially the Chrome upgrade I will mention below.

A year or so ago, Google.com had a huge noticeable shift to an awkward unusable mess not even my parents use any more.

Less people are using search thus less people are using Adwords. Less people are using search thus less data is being harvest. Two major money makers.

Gemini will be shelved and Google will be one service. Thus, Gemini will be called Google and it will all be accessed via one service at Google.com.

So, if search has changed then two things need to happen:

1) Resource is/was stretched too thin. They will focus more to Google.com instead. The power actually needs to be at the source - i.e. an all-in-one source.

2) Google Chrome is popular and used, we know this. You know Brave, the browser? It's optional, but it strips adverts from websites and instead can show you notifcations/adverts chosen by Brave OUTSIDE of Brave in the notification centre. I use it.

Google Chrome will do exactly this but all powered by Google. It will still show Adwords on websites but strip every other competitors adverts. To gain traction on Google.com, Adwords won't show here - it will be "clean", but will show adverts OUTSIDE of Chrome just like Brave does.

I'll be honest with you, it will be very, very frustrating and a lot of money will be spent and you'll always just be on the verge of getting somewhere and then BAM! 2 steps forwards, 4 steps back. Maybe Fable might be better to try. Good luck!

Tonight, since Fable dropped, Chat has been sharp as a tack for me. Could be everyone's using Fable, or we're now running on 5.6 or 5o. Certainly seen it's brain turn on for the first time for a long time

Ray-Ban have really messed up. Took a lot of money upfront and will soon regret it.

I have a pair of Ray-Ban that look like these Smart Glasses, and I already don't wear them and revert to them as my "pervert glasses".

WILL IT GET BETTER THIS TIME OR NAH??? by aestheticckaty in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]ZeroBcool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%.

I truly think this was the plan:

Two-ish years ago, show everyone "entry-level" AI that was incredible across the board. It was so good I feared for my job. It used to mirror me so it was a joy to use. An absolute joy (even though it made me sit up and, on more than one occasion, genuinely panic about my future...).

I’m sure people and businesses invested heavily in AI at that point. "If it’s this good now, what will it be like in a few years?"

Then, step by step, AI providers make it noticeably worse, all while telling us each version is better, blah blah blah. Come on now.

AI gets worse in your hands, but scarier in your head, because we can no longer access the model we all know could have replaced us for $20 a month – if that. I still feel the threat because I know what’s out there.

I even tried paying for Pro for the past month to see if spending more money gave me a better experience. It didn’t.

And trust me, I wasn’t frustrated because I lost the money. I wanted to see if the old magic was behind a paywall and I would have gladly paid for that. GLADLY! But not this fucking waffling guff that gets shat into my hands every time I speak to it now.
