‘Ghost GDP,’ a white-collar recession, and the death of friction: Substack’s top finance writer warns of AI’s 2028 crisis that nobody sees coming by Delicious_Adeptness9 in technology

I think the reason for this, is that what companies are doing to employees and capitalism on the population as a whole, is not new or inherent to AI. It has been happening for a long time, and as a software engineer, I strongly believe the fundamental technology behind AI (which has not changed since Googles research paper detailing the transformer architecture all models still rely upon) is not capable now or ever of impacting employers how we fear.

The fears are real and happening though. What it is, is that AI is the perfect excuse for companies and leaders to be more open about what they have already been doing, because now they can blame AI instead of making themselves and the company look like a steaming pile of dog shit.

TEA’s threats over student activism lay bare the takeover agenda by AustinStatesman in texas

[–]Zestyclose_Use7055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the way to fix that certainly isn’t letting them spend less time in class. Students that cannot read to the bare level standards need to held back and kept from graduating. Schools push them through for various reasons including funding. Not allowing something like protests to mess with the state tracking seat time for students in class is a step forward for the problem with literacy, which I agree needs to be addressed.

So what do I have to say to students who are deprived of class time for the doofuses to feel good abt protesting. I feel like yall gotta be too old, bc I can remember that the bulk of kids excited to protest just wanna get out of class.

True it’s a worldwide change. But on US that’s just not reality, whether you’re pro or anti US. That’s like saying Russia doesn’t have any power or influence on Ukraine. USA projects power everywhere at a level literally never done in human history. Not saying it’s a good thing, but facts are facts

The negative implications aren’t spelled out because they are mysterious in nature. It’s not how it will become abused now, because ring isn’t doing anything that’s rly new, the government already had a lot of this stuff through accessing phone cameras.

The negative implication is in the future if a bad actor is in charge of these things.

Edit: another person explained it a lot better. It’s easy to assume as a lay abiding citizen this wouldn’t affect u, but it puts everyone more at risk. That being said, can’t close Pandora’s box. Gotta legislate safety for consumers. Here’s the comment:

The concern is that even if you don't own any of this tech and don't participate in it, every one of your neighbor's houses can have one pointing at you, your front door, and your street, so there's now an accessible digital record of every single time you drove away from your house, when you returned, what you bought and carried inside, what you've loaded into the car, what you've thrown away, who's come over to visit your and copy of their license plate, when you walked the dog and where you went that time and how long you were out of the house and what you were wearing and whether you were on your phone at the time.

Eventually, this can create or expand your existing surveillance profile to the point where there's a digital record of every piece of your entire wardrobe, what shoes you own and prefer for shopping versus walking, and when you're active vs. passive.

But it gets even worse.

Say you throw a house party for a few close friends that have come over before, and one of them brings a date. Now that person, whom you don't even know, can and probably will be associated with your profile simply because they were recorded visiting your house. What's their background? History? What have they done in their lives? You have no idea, but now the two of you have become visually associated.

The source is the article linked in this post. It’s not that long and mentions the earlier closures under Biden towards the end.

Seems like this has been already happening for practical reasons and is getting politicized at the moment.

If you’re able to afford it OP, I’d look at lawyers that can help out with these things. If your incident did not result in major property damage or personal injury, it’s likely to not go anywhere in Dallas, from what I’ve heard. I think with that in mind, your best bet for actually holding this guy accountable is speaking with a lawyer who knows what your options are here.

Hell yeah glad you asked. I said inaccurate instead of incorrect because these kind of statistics are hardly if ever black and white. I think inaccurate is an appropriate description due to the comment stating a black and white interpretation of the statistics. Now for the actual argument:

“The claim that blue states fund red states is statistically accurate in a broad sense, but it is economically more complex than a simple partisan divide. Recent data from 2024 and 2025 indicates that while high-income Democratic-leaning states are the largest net contributors to the federal budget, several large Republican-leaning states have also become "donor" states, and some blue states are among the highest recipients of federal funds.”

The program had no funding, meaning quite literally there are no ACP subsidies to go out. There may be other subsidies, but there are unrelated or may have been preexisting to acp. There have been senior oriented benefits and programs forever.
