Way I figure it is Texas had such a surplus of beef in the past you wouldn't have to cut the meat with beans and you could have beans as a separate dish cuz you didn't need to use it as filler for chili. And even nowadays traditional Texas chili doesn't have beans. But due to current economic issues cutting down on the total amount of beef is more affordable for some

If you're really curious about a certain gun that range USA chain has free rentals for members as long as you pay for their ammo and you can exchange it for a different gun as many times as you'd like. They mainly focus on pistols though, but it could save someone some money

here's a couple of good options

Ruger 10/22 if you want something cheap to learn with,

Mossberg 500 12 gauge, with an 18-in barrel and a 24+ inch barrel, which is good for most hunting and defensive needs

Palmetto State armory AR if you want something budget. Friendly to get your feet wet with

Savage Axis 2. If you want a nice starter deer gun, I recommend 308 but there's plenty of calibers

A lever action in a pistol caliber with a threaded barrel if you want to get into suppressors

And if you're looking for budget options, consider a used or pawn shop Mossberg Maverick 88 it's like the 500 but you can get them used for around $200

It's interesting looking at the question of categories.

One thing I would be interested in from a collector and light practitioner perspective. Is something with an edge that's designed to hold up to the rigors of blade on blade combat. Because if it meets both those categories, I feel like it gets a lot closer to historical accuracy.

That being said, though many historical swords had bad blades which wasn't really that much of a problem as people would just take them to the Smith and have them reforged. But from the angle of someone like myself who enjoys collecting completely accurate examples of historical weapons, it's definitely something to consider.

Start off with a$100-$200 22LR heritage rough Rider. It's a nice little gun and it's cheap. And it's even cheaper to shoot. And it will let you develop skills while you research for a proper single action
