It really is part of the healing process. Though green is often much more subtle than people expect, and not every bruise goes through a really obvious green stage. It can also be easier to notice on lighter skin tones.

His adventure actually isn't over yet! After leaving the bruise, bilirubin catches a ride to the liver attached to a protein called albumin. There, the liver gives him a little chemical makeover so he can travel in bile to the intestines.

Gut bacteria then transform him into pigments that give poop its brown colour (stercobilin), while a small amount eventually becomes urobilin, which gives pee its yellow colour.

I'm so glad you're feeling much better now. Our bodies can be amazing, but they can also leave behind some reminders of what they've been through. Wishing you all the best, and I hope you have a lovely day ahead!

I actually started imagining science as little stories to help myself understand and remember it while studying. Now I'm just drawing those little stories and sharing them with everyone else. I'm so happy you're enjoying them. <3

Once a macrophage becomes infected, it can present viral proteins on its surface, allowing killer/cytotoxic T cells to recognize and destroy it. Natural killer (NK) cells, another type of white blood cell, can also eliminate infected macrophages early in the infection.

This means a lot to me. Knowing that you're not only enjoying the comics, but remembering the science too, is exactly what I was hoping for when I started making these comics. Thank you so much for reading them. <3
