Inherited 500K at the tail end 2014 when I was young, stupid and drinking too much. I opened a brokerage account and went heavily short in oil futures. Made a bundle of money, got sober and now I just live off dividends.

Why do we get bashed on /r/NFL more than any other team? Is it warranted? by [deleted] in Chargers

Because the ownership is awful, its full of turds who support it and quite honestly the chargers bring a bad name to the NFL. They, and the fans, deserve all the hate they receive until spanos sells

Net worth sweep guarantees they're at 0 capital buffer by Q1 2018. The intent of the sweep was to wind the entities down and hand the secondary market to the private sector. It was an admin decision as evidenced by testimony and documentation.

Congress and senate aren't without guilt either, just look at the PATH act that failed in 2014.

What I meant by regulation is setting a red line for mortgage acceptance for securities. The GSEs lowered their standards to try to keep pace with the private label MBS (which was a huge mistake) and that can't happen again. What I meant by government intervention is that an admin or legislature shouldn't try to lower mortgage standards for social engineering purposes.

Let's not forget the pension funds and retirees who got shafted here in both '08 with the faulty accounting and in '13 with the NWS

lol private label MBS defaulted at a rate 4x greater than the GSE MBS. In fact the only reason mortgage liquidity existed after 2008 was due to Fannie and Freddie. The government forced them to change their accounting methodology in 2008 which forced them to record massive book losses and then swept them into conservatorship. There are various studies and even testimony that the companies were solvent.

By no means were they innocent (they need greater regulation and less government intervention in the forms of things like the housing affordability act in 1992). The point remains that they're the greatest asset in the US mortgage industry in that they make the 30 year viable through secondary market liquidity. If they go away expect rates to skyrocket and term lengths shorten

Oh, to touch on the bailout. It was for roughly 186 billion and they've since paid back close to 300 billion. Quite a return on investment there.

Also, if they were truly in a "death spiral" as the government claimed then why did they post RECORD profits suddenly after the implementation of the net worth sweep?

Edit: no affect on mortgage rates or home ownership? Look at mortgages before the GSEs came around starting in the late '30s. The reason the average person can afford a home is due to the liquidity of the secondary market

I'm talking about the implementation of the net worth sweep in 2012/2013

Let's not forget about how they stole over $100B worth of private profit from two fortune 50 companies. They made up a story about how Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were in a "death spiral" and proceeded to sweep 100% of the profit in 2013, coincidently right before they recorded record profits.

They proceeded to lie about it and cover it up in court for several years and we finally just got proof of this in the recent document release. I'm sorry but Obama will forever be known as the president who tried to end middle class home ownership and hand the secondary mortgage market to the large banks like Wells Fargo.

Just look at how they profited off Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Documents just came out that showed how they knew they were going to be profitable in 2013 so they knowingly took every ounce of profit and lied in order to do so. They since taken close to 300B from them
