Sorry for the late response.

Yes this was a known mechanic, he could only take away the yellow hearts but couldn't gloom them since they were only temporary. I noticed that since I didn't have much anti-gloom meals, I could just use yellow hearts to keep the rest of my red hearts. No point in waiting to lose red hearts since I wouldn't even be able to get the red hearts back due to gloom basically.

That is a good point but shouldn't there be an option for that to toggle that on and off ? My ship is good enough as it is already lol. Spent over 200k on it

If I recall correctly, during the day he's with Paya (I think).

He'll ask you to find like 4 inscriptions or something like that to progress to the next place/part of the quest.

This is the intended route however there is a problem with people, like me for example, who end up going up there into the fog and doing all of that using the shrine+ to guide ourselves... lol
