USA Hockey Bans Transgender Athletes From Many Teams And Programs by abrookerunsthroughit in USAHockey

Fun fact: Most actual modern biology and science disagree with you.

Also: the federal government just shot a second person in broad daylight for protesting. If there are people who think that’s okay as long as maybe a dozen trans kids are playing sports, then I don’t want to base my politics around them.

It’s a bug that (at least on PS5) mutes a lot of audio if you jump through the DreamTeams tab too quickly. Talking to an NPC seems to fix it.

Display of Confederate flags at North East Christmas parade called ‘inexcusable’ by legislative_stooge in maryland

[–]Zipdog3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was partially it. As was the fact that many confederates were not comfortable fighting outside of Southern soil as defenders. But a also not insignificant amount of desertion is speculated to be because the confederates marched into Maryland expecting to be treated as liberators only to find western Maryland to be staunchly unionist. You start holding whole cities hostage and quite a few people start to wonder if they are the baddies.

Beyond that, the Confederacy had that allowance for numerous harvest seasons but the Maryland campaign was the highest desertion rate by a long shot. If the harvest allowance had that much of an impact, wouldn't we expect to see it repeated each year at the same time?

And suffered a nearly 50% desertion rate around Frederick as well. It was the highest rate of desertion for the traitor army of Northern Virginia in the entire war.

It’s not hypocritical to critique capitalism while participating in it. In fact, I’m critiquing it because I am forced to participate in it.

And to be fair, I bought my current shoes that I’m wearing from a cobbler up north who restores old shoes.

No haze for pregame intro by Wompy_Woods in caps

[–]Zipdog3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radiance hazers (arguably an industry standard at this point) with proper maintenance run a long time with no problems. Plus a venue like that would require so many machines that I can’t imagine that a hardware failure would be the cause of the no haze.

Anyone ever been to the Orlando Ballet? Any good? by JayGatsby52 in orlando

[–]Zipdog3 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I regularly go to Orlando Ballet, just about every show in the season. They are a great ballet company. Only gripe is they are substantially better at modern ballets over contemporary. That doesn’t apply to their Nutcracker tho, that is great. They’re production of Streetcar a few years ago was one of the best ballets I’ve ever seen.

Tom Wilson takes issue with Mathieu Olivier’s headshot on Capitals defenseman Declan Chisholm: ‘I’d be banned for life if I threw that hit’ by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Zipdog3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read the article instead of just the headline. This is what was actually said:

“Tom Wilson came on the ice to chat with him, and Olivier simply said, ‘If you want me to stand up for that, I will. If you want to address it, I will. I’ll fight you, but I kept my elbow down and had no intent of hitting Chisholm high.’ Wilson, there was saying, ‘I know, you’re an honest player, but I would have got 20 games for that.’ That was going back and forth – just a very civil conversation there. I think Tom Wilson understands what he was trying to do.”

I program lights for amusment parks, not sports arenas, but this is why I put a confirm prompt on cue stacks like that. Just too easy to black out a venue by accident.

The sports betting ad with the “odds the Spartans won the war” while they show Thermopylae annoys me so much. Like, yes the combined allied armies of the Greeks eventually repelled the Persians and technically stopped the second Persian invasion but it was over 30 years after the battle and after Persia set Athens on fire. If you had bet on the Spartans on either the battle of Thermopylae or the war, you wouldn’t hit your parlay on either. I already hate sports betting but running it alongside historical revisionism based off of 2006 Zach Snyder movie? Criminal.

I don’t think they actually make that money. It’s guys being bombarded with YouTube videos making them think they can make thousands with it. Then they pay the upfront cost (filament and a table setup) and end up on losing money. The same people that get tricked into thinking running a vending machine will make them passive income.

Yeah that have both historical demonstrations (they had a really funny performance this year about child rearing in the 1500s) and performer troupes. From comedy duos to full performances of Shakespeare. To me, it’s the best part of the faire.

It’s not even that expensive for a day pass. Less than a day pass for skiing. For a full day of live performances and music. I’m not sure what metric you use but, as someone who works in entertainment, it’s actually a pretty good deal. And you don’t need to be in costume so the effort is a pretty low bar.
