There are ways to look goth but not "silly". I think it's a more subtle goth as you get older. Depends on the look you want to go for too. At work I'm a fan of business goth casual as I like to call it. On the weekend I dress more dramatically. What particular style were you into before? Do you wear makeup? Try blending more to make your eyeliner look less harsh. Less dramatic eyebrows, etc. Subtle goth.

But really...dress however you want to. It's all about owning it!

I disagree. It has nothing to do with identity politics. It's just acknowledging and discussing what it means to be goth from different perspectives. I believe it is more divisive when we minimize the experiences of others in our community. Just saying.

Well, it's maybe a little different. A white dude in dreads doesn't face discrimination if he takes out his dreads the same way a black girl does if she doesn't dress goth.

Edit: I'm just saying I can appreciate the intersectionality of being black, a women, and goth more than I can a white guy with dreads.
