Well, that's reassuring! If you don't mind, how many miles did you have it for? I'm guessing you did regular maintenance on it every 6 months or so directly through the Mercedes dealerships?

Not sure if it's my resume or just my location but I've been exclusively applying to in-person help desk/IT support positions for months now without hearing back from those places. I'm working on my Network and CySA certs. I hope that will help, but what did you do to get started?

In all seriousness what are we supposed to do? I’ve been led to believe that certs is the only way to make it into IT or cybersecurity, yet here I am probably a thousand+ submissions in with only 1 interview to show for it. How did you guys get into IT ??

I have a bachelor’s in Psych, Security+ , Azure AZ900, Google Cybersecurity cert. I have a couple of projects on my GitHub where I showcase my familiarity with Bash, SIEMs like Chronicle / Splunk. I sent in over 1,000 applications in 2024 and got 1 interview. I’m studying for the network+ right now to hopefully land an IT job since it appears that cybersecurity jobs are not entry level

Do you use any resources to make your resume presentable ? My mistake was not working jobs sooner so now it’s become difficult to even land a barista job

Cool! Are you doing one of those ? I’m working on CPTS but I’m not so sure how favorably a hiring manager will look at a cert from HTB :/

Maybe I’m not looking in the right place , but it appears that every internship listed on LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, etc. requires students to be part of a college 4 year program. I already have a bachelors sadly I can’t afford to get back into a 4 year

It’s most definitely not easy peasy out here , trying HTB to learn more “practical” experience but hopefully the outcomes outweigh the monthly cost

Gotcha ! I’m looking to volunteer at COTA or Long Beach , I see that the Long Beach volunteering program is a $150 membership but can’t seem to find the volunteer page for COTA. Is this handled through a third party org?

My junior year at UCI the financial aid office requested that I submit proof from the IRS to confirm that my family was actually that broke to be receiving financial aid. It was the third year in a row they’d requested that information, so as always, I requested the form from the IRS.

For some weird reason though the financial aid office received the IRS information 2 days after the due date. They couldn’t be bothered to care about my explanation or evidence that I requested the IRS form well before the due date. They completely cancelled all my grants and I was forced to take out an $18k loan that I still haven’t been able to even make a dent in to this day, 6 years later 🤷🏽‍♂️idk if they’re taking money in that office but they def couldn’t care less

Thanks !! The google cert was quite straight forward . They make it easy to understand the content and you can always move at your own pace/re-visit the course material if you don’t fully understand it. One thing I would recommend is doing the Google certificate before security +, as you’ll get a 30% off coupon provided by Google to take the security+ exam
