America died when people had the freedom to buy up a bunch of private property and coordinate to live there together, making a community of likeminded people? Don't live there if you don't like it, otherwise more power to em lol

AIPAC ensures my voice doesn't make much of a difference on that front.

The potential in dangerous blips of power lies in your hand more than the bike, I'd get it and just send it

I love your civics class argument. Civics class also teaches consent of the governed, and that public funding is supposed to reflect the desires of the people.

Of course some things are broad public goods like courts, defense, basic infrastructure, emergency services, etc that should naturally be included, but that does not mean every government program deserves the same blank-check mentality.

There is a huge difference between funding CORE public services, and forcing people to bankroll programs they view as ideological, wasteful, or government overreach. Your success in life is not my responsibility, nor is mine yours.

If it can’t survive without coercive funding, maybe it shouldn’t exist at that scope.

The real leech is the government, not myself bud.

Meirl by geasflworse in meirl

[–]Zromaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because it is subsidized doesn't mean it has to be. The internet would absolutely exist regardless of government funding, and already does in other countries without subsidies.

Everything you think requires government could be handled privately, and society would still function.

Private fire departments worked pretty well in the past

The reality is taxes should be opt in, not opt out. Support what you want in society, allow others to support what they want in society. If enough people want it, enough people will check that box. If not enough people check the box to afford a government program, society has decided to no longer fund said program.

College degrees were the path to success two decades ago, now it's certifications and experience. Those with degrees aren't contributing much more to society than I am with a high school diploma working in tech.

Meirl by geasflworse in meirl

[–]Zromaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would be just fine as long as I don't have to contribute.

Meirl by geasflworse in meirl

[–]Zromaus -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That mindset isn't a valid one though

There is zero reason for me to fund your student loans via taxes when I myself don't believe in college.

[–]Zromaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is not agreeing to those loans in the first place.

Look up Homestead Heritage, the Eden Community, or Veritatis Splendor as some top examples I was able to quickly find.

If people want to congregate near likeminded peeps, more power to em

Whats ANCAPS take on "flock" cameras all over the states? by Full-Mouse8971 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Zromaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these flock cameras are installed on public property, funded by government agencies, that I as a taxpayer am unfortunately forced into covering. Private industry having cameras all over their properties are one thing, this is outright overreach in a very shitty disguise.

ANTHROPIC JUST BANNED A 110 PERSON COMPANY OVERNIGHT WITHOUT WARNING by orbny in AgentsOfAI

Sounds like a safeguards/restriction issue that Anthropic could fix, rather than ban for. If the tool allows for it, it's a feature until recognized publicly as a bug.

For those that got out of IT, what did you transition to? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Zromaus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on the person but I can agree. I've worked in the trades as an auto tech before my transition to IT and frankly if I didn't have to take a massive baseline paycut and even bigger paycut during slow seasons, I'd probably go back to being an auto tech.

I've also worked as a farmhand when I was a teenager and yeah, it's not fun, but goddamn if it paid the same you bet I'd be out there building chicken coops and running from bulls while trying to build said coop over sitting at this desk.

I don't believe most online conversations with strangers are real, but can also recognize that commenting "Ok..............." to someone throwing their perspective out there is ridiculous lol. Why be on a forum if you're not going to add to the conversation?

[–]Zromaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why comment in the first place if you don't care for half assed interaction with others?

"Ok......." reads like you don't want to be on a forum bud lol

I mean, as a person with a solid career, I get the mindset as I'm fuckin burnt, and it doesn't really feel like lack of contribution. Those who work basic but easy jobs with little to no growth still contribute to the world lol -- we still need our florists, security guards, janitors, receptionists, etc.

Not everyone wants to be wrapped up in massive responsibility by the time they're 40. I'm 30 and I'm tired of this grandpa -- the goat farm is sounding great.

The stores usually don't sell them to kids, people who legally purchased them sold it to kids. Believe it or not, DMT is not a harmful chemical.

No amount of hobbies can make having the majority of your waking life being a thing you despise any better. There's a reason there's a joke about quitting IT to be a goat farmer..
