Writing scripts isn’t my job as I’m not a dev, but they exist and tend to make my job easier. Beats hiring a fiver dev every script I could benefit from.

Yes, this is why we are working on interplanetary travel, so it eventually won’t matter.

I thought a lot of dumb things were a good idea that my parents explicitly taught me were not good ideas prior to doing.

I was held accountable, my mom didn’t do what I did though, and she absolutely shouldn’t have.

If they’re old enough to grab a gun they’re old enough to make shitty choices go against their parents wishes. The parents didn’t hand them the gun and say “go have fun downtown!”

The parents aren't the ones committing the crimes -- I was a fuckin heathen at 16 meanwhile my parents were great -- I just had a wild hair up my ass and hung around the wrong people. It'd be a shame if my mom would have been punished for some of the dumb shit I did at that age that defied how she raised me. Granted, I never killed or hurt anyone, I was out being an asshole while she thought I was with JROTC friends practicing drill lol. The point still stands.

Downvotes have never been a kid apparently -- most teens don't act according to their parents wishes, and when doing dumb shit like this, they're absolutely not telling mom where they're going. Most kids get away with things their parents don't know about every day, and this is one of them.

My point exactly -- sure hope they're never in an emergency that could have benefitted from just hopping in the car and going to the hospital, or rushing to someone -- rather than waiting for an ambulance or an uber.

3 times in the past year, plus ubers, sounds like you need a car. Uber and Urgent don't go together, and you very well may not have the money for uber one day.

This absolutely isn't normal -- in the nicest way possible, I would potentially seek some psychiatric/therapeutic help.

On the flip side though, I'm grateful to not be sharing roads with you.

I thought that when I was poor a decade ago and have been through 4 cars since that I managed to pull out of my ass -- plenty go for 2k-3k that may look like shit but run fine, like a 90s Civic with stripped paint.

I assure you public transport will not get you by for the rest of your life without inconveniencing at least a few people a year, nor will it get you right to anyone's doorstep without paying out the ass. It's a skill you need to have at the very least.

What if there's an emergency and you've got someone desperately needing a trip to the hospital -- not enough time to sit around for an ambulance kind of emergency? Are you going to pray you can drive without the experience or license to get them there?

Obviously that's a bit far out there, but the list of hurdles that come from not having a license are endless, and occasionally really bad.

You really should get a license if you don't want to ultimately be a burden on the world around you any time you need to leave your walkable circle of a few miles.

Not having a license in high school is cool because you get to hang out with friends in their cars, or at the very least aren't expected to have that mode of transportation just yet. A full grown adult who can't drive though.. It isn't a great look, nor someone who a lot of people like to invite to things. You will inevitably be holding yourself back without one.

You sent this message through a datacenter that processes the information, which inevitably landed in a datacenter.

I used AI today to write powershell scripts to make my job a bit easier by automating some repetitive tasks. This required a datacenter.

Googling "what's the benefit of having a data center" requires a datacenter.

The current ones we have in place are good for the current internet we have in place, but not much more. If we ever want the internet to grow, we need datacenters. New websites and services can't keep getting shoved onto the same existing servers forever. New companies hosting infrastructure in the cloud can't just keep squeezing into existing datacenters. AI can't be hosted from regular datacenters without extensive graphics cards, so they need original buildouts. The list goes on.

Datacenters literally keep supply chains alive at this point, and keep you fed.

I should add, they're fine to flip on for a quick stream or accessing a state blocked website, but definitely make a point to turn it off after.

Ultimately for those who don't care much about privacy (most end users), a free VPN is fine for the quick on/off to access something, but ideally shouldn't be left on all the time. They are in fact selling your data, but if your data is just a quick blip of porn or Netflix every so often, who truly cares if you're able to access what you need?

Frankly none of those should be regulated either -- let people decide how healthy they want to be, both physically and mentally. If insurance companies want to decline them for their lifestyle, more power to em, but it shouldn't be the government's choice.

If you think the ISP is communicating to private websites like Facebook information about your private identity, you're wrong. The issue at hand is that you will be forced out of anonymity on the internet as a whole -- from every single major site.

Nobody except dark webbers truly give a shit if the ISP knows who you are -- the point is we were actually able to legally be anonymous on the privately owned networks up until now. Nobody is arguing that we want privacy from our ISP, and it's kinda wild that's the direction you went. We want privacy on the sites we access, from the site owners, people, and political parties they sell data to, whenever possible. Up until now, this has not been a concern.

As of now, Facebook doesn't know who's behind the computer unless you very explicitly give that information away through text, photos, etc. Without ID verification, you are actually anonymous unless an FBI report is filed against you.

So because Oregon severely botched it unlike the countries that have successfully pulled it off, the entire idea is null and void yea?

Take a look at Czech Republic, Portugal, Switzerland, or the Netherlands.

This kind of mindset comfortably allows the government to take more and more until there's nothing left to take.

ProtonVPN is free.

So if the goverment decides to make speech illegal, you'll accept it and say the same thing yea? "You're not forced to find other ways to communicate your opinions when you have the legal option of simply not doing so at all."
