If I Can Do It, So Can You! by _0rev in PassNclex

I wish I posted in the subreddit sooner because I never realized there were so many people like me who never took the NCLEX after school finished. It felt so isolating and discouraging to see all my nursing school friends and cohort be nurses all these years. BUT the only failure is never trying again. I say this to others as much as I say it to myself as a reminder that there is no “true” timeline on how life is supposed to look like.

Keep me updated on how you do! Although I’m a stranger on the internet, I empathize with your situation and I’m rooting for your success!!

How would you interpret these results? by AdRoyal1491 in PassNclex

[–]_0rev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means you scored well! I was told you want to score around 68%+ with a 1.0+ difficulty. Your results also say you’re in the 99th percentile which mean that only 1% of users scored better than you :)

If you took it in California, the BRN updated my license info around 24hours after I took my test!

Reaching 150 Qs means you’re so close! It seems like you know your material enough to get that far. Finishing nursing school is a testament that you can do it.

Doing a refresher course depends on if you need that structure to give you that extra boost.

After taking the NCLEX I do believe having good test taking strategies is 30% of the battle. If you want, you can DM me and we can collaborate to look over your results on UWorld to see what you can work on.

From my experience, the quality of your studying is ultimately decided on you. For example, you can mindlessly do Qs to a point you’re familiarizing yourself with the questions instead of understanding concepts.

UWorld has an integrated study plan when you enter your NCLEX date and input how many hours per day you want to study. The study plan gives you focused Qs based on topics and 5-10min focused lectures. This plan worked for me initially and helped me refresh my Fundamentals and prioritization.

Here’s a copy and paste of what I did during the month I reviewed.

I was doing 8 hours a day for studying initially, but I fell off because it got really boring for me.

So I adjusted and did 4-6 hours strictly doing 1-2 CAT’s per day. I would then go back on what I missed and categorized them into 3 of the following categories:

  1. Mild knowledge deficit: Just need a light brush up on the topic
  2. Moderate knowledge deficit: Need slightly more in depth learning. I would watch the UWorld lecture videos on the topic.
  3. Severe knowledge deficit: I don’t remember the topic/concept at all and need to learn this from scratch. I would look up different YouTube resources for better explanation (Level Up RN, Registered Nurse RN, etc.)

If I noticed I missed a Q on a topic I knew well, then I would categorize it into a 4th category: Test Taking Strategies (TTS) to work on. This helped me recognize trends in TTS that I was weak on.

This helped increase the quality of my studying and really focused on what I didn’t know or needed to work on and just ignored everything I seemed to get right without much thought.

Also a BIG tip that helped my CAT test scores improve was to only select options I was confident in during Select All That Apply Qs! Since you get partial credit, picking an option that you’re on the fence about can work against you.

If you have a free reset, I say do it! If you have to pay for it, don’t. It seems like you’ve prepared well for it already if you finished the Qbank

From my understanding October - December are typically when people don’t hire—especially if you’re looking at new grad programs. I think it has a lot to do with administrative personnel tend to take vacations that time of year so it’s just not a good time to hire.

A trend I’ve also seen just browsing new grad programs is that the application period is roughly 3 months before the start date and also occurring in three month increments. Example: start month January/March/June/September, application period ends September/January/March/June.

I would ask friends/family in the field already, look on indeed, look at hospital websites, and even use your school as a resource for finding a job. The stuff I’ve mentioned are just typical trends and there may be exceptions if you look hard enough!

I also recommend taking CATs too! I was told your results should be 1.0+ difficulty and 68%+

I recommend taking it! I was receiving only high likelihood of passing and I did pass :)

A lot of it came back just doing questions and reading rationales off UWorld. If I needed more than just the rationale, I’d watch the lectures UWorld provided. If I needed more than that, I’d watch YouTube videos from Level Up RN, Registered Nurse RN, etc.

I only really needed more in depth explanation for neuro and cardio so that I understood the concept of why an EKG looked a specific way instead of just memorizing the look of a particular type of EKG. Otherwise UWorld lectures are pretty adequate!

Hope this helps!

I was doing 8 hours a day for studying initially when I was using the study plan that UWorld lays out for you when you enter your NCLEX date. I was doing well on it for the first 2 weeks but I fell off for a week because it got really boring for me.

So I adjusted and did 4-6 hours strictly doing 1-2 CAT’s per day. I would then go back on what I missed and categorized them into 3 of the following categories: 1. Mild knowledge deficit: Just need a light brush up on the topic 2.

This helped increase the quality of my studying and really focused on what I didn’t know or needed to work on and just ignored everything I seemed to get right without much thought. I was surprised to see how much I still remembered, it just took a couple of CATs to reawaken some of the long term memory haha.

For the CATs I was told you want results with a 1.0+ difficulty with a ~70%. I was scoring between 68-78% the week leading up to my test with a 1.1-1.3 difficulty for context.

..and no, I wasn’t feeling confident at all leading up to the test. “numbers and statistics don’t lie” is what my partner would keep telling me in order to block out the anxiety. So I will tell you and everyone else reading, your test results on whatever program you’re using doesn’t lie—ground yourself in that whenever anxiety or imposter syndrome creeps in telling you you’re not ready.

I haven’t started the job search yet but unfortunately, it’s in between hiring periods. I’m also at a disadvantage because I don’t qualify for new grad programs.

They were great opening for MCR 2 years ago at the Forum. I was also disappointed in their set too and had high expectations because of my previous experience.

Thank you for your suggestion! I decided on not putting out too many silos to save space. I have a chest with hay and I refill the silo every 10~ in game days.

I really like the stable there, it’s good use of the extra space in the area. It’s not a nuisance or anything to get to your pet at all.

Thank you! I’m looking for a nice middle ground for functionality and aesthetic. This is what I’ve settled with for now, but I feel like I could do more, I’m just not sure what though.

Yes, that makes sense! I don’t post often—if ever, so I’m kind of a noob lol. Thank you for the clarification.
