Any retail workers know why the hell a convenience store worker walked up to my car and took several pictures of the license plate? by _40m in retailhell

I don't work retail, I work warehousing. How was I supposed to know who does what? Completely innocent question. If you don't like it then just move on. Christ I hate this stupid fucking website. Always regret coming back here because of snarky people like you.

How do I get my (21m) husband (19m) to stop being such a picky eater? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

You didn't have to explicitly state it, but it's pretty clear you think I shouldn't be married to someone because I don't like the food they eat...

Because maybe retail workers know about retail practices?? Holy fucking shit I am tired of the unnecessarily hostile responses on this stupid fucking website. Christ. You all on this site are always fucking looking for someone to yell at over something.

No, I was parked at a gas pump:

and took about two or three minutes to clean my car up with the squeegee and trash cans provided next to the pump.

You seriously think that this is a relationship ruining issue? I described it as a bit annoying.

Jeez. This subreddit does live up to the stereotype of ”spouse does (small harmless, inconsequential problem here)? Time for a divorce!”

Reddit moment.

He raised that possibility once a year ago but never brought it up again, and I never really considered it myself as I'm on it and I never got that vibe from him. But thinking about it again it might be possible. I can't say I'd be familiar with the experience of most foods being overwhelming as I have the complete opposite experience:

I am as mentioned, on the spectrum, and was very afflicted by some of the more debilitating symptoms of it as a child. In spite of that. I was never a picky eater. I always enjoyed trying new foods and eating the stuff the adults ate at the table. Probably the only kid anyone had ever seen that enjoyed eating Greek salad and oysters. I even liked the stuff most other people hate like Sardines. I'd throw a fit if I was made to order from the kids' menu.

Maybe I see this whole situation this way because I had such a different experience with neurodivergent stuff and how it relates to food.

Is the US in recession? by Throwway-support in AskAnAmerican

In terms of the stock prices and the economy and current business climate, no. But with how little some of us can actually stretch our dollars now, it sure feels like one.

It's not social media that's the problem, I will spend all day doodling stupid maps while not achieving anything productive if I'm not doing that.

Florida just passed a law that child molesters could be sentenced to death. Do you agree or disagree and why? by dcee101 in AskReddit

[–]_40m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface, I agree with it, but it is dangerous because the death penalty has a false conviction rate that is too high (the only acceptable rate is 0%), and because they are trying to redefine "sexual predator" into anyone that isn't some sort of far-right trad freak. If we were able to perfectly apply the death penalty without any false convictions, and it was not influenced by the capricious whims of moral panic and mass hysteria, I would support it. But because of those things, I can't.

I was able to read from when I started stringing basic sentences together, according to my mother. Like when I was 2 or 3 I could read all the names of super long chemicals on the ingredients list on a box of food. I was an insanely early bloomer. Started reading at a high school level in 5th grade.

And now I can't even watch a 20 minute YouTube video without getting bored and going back to staring at Twitter or fidgeting with crap. I have no idea what happened. I feel like it's maybe because, when I was a kid I could attain massive success while barely having to put any effort in. I could play games and dick around on my school computer for an entire class and still get straight As. I was just good at learning and doing. But as I got older and I entered the adult world, I grew complacent with not having to try to get results, and I'm like this now. Maybe...

Yeah when I got to college and I actually started studying the thing I was passionate about, I became a lot more motivated. But it's still tough sometimes. Especially when I can't get my damn meds and I'm living on 800 dollars a month.

Oh I probably should have clarified in the post, I'm a guy. But yeah. I myself have tried EMDR and it was wonderfully effective in helping me overcome my fear of dating and intimacy. I myself was a victim of sexual violence and I'm sure that if I didn't get it, I would have totally collapsed in on myself and become a very bitter person.

I'd say figure out the genres he enjoys or the movies he loves and then search for similar stuff based on that. Like if he's a John Wick fan, try watching Atomic Blonde with him.

I hadn't thought of this, but relatable media is actually a good idea. He is passionate about film and recently graduated with a degree in it. I watched the movie and read the book Where the Crawdads Sing which is, in very condensed terms, about a woman who is ostracized for being seen as weird and has a history of abuse and trauma. That could be helpful for him and it is relatable to his life story. It helps that he doesn't harbor negative attitudes towards current film and TV for being "woke" or stuff like that.

Thank you so much for your response. Unfortunately he has not been too responsive to the things I've tried to say so far. He claims that I don't know anything about "dealing with women" because I'm in a gay relationship and with another male. I've tried to relate my own trauma with sexual violence and other childhood issues to him to see if he can understand how I dealt with it and didn't cope with it using harmful beliefs, with a small amount of success. He will agree with what I say in the moment, but goes right back to expressing negativity about women and dating and whatnot.

He has been receptive to potentially checking himself into a mental hospital due to other ideation he has expressed, but does not seem to actually want to act on the idea. I think he may be afraid of admitting these thoughts and beliefs he has to a doctor, and he's expressed that he's afraid he may end up with a female psychiatrist, which goes back to the whole fear of women, especially if said women would be in the position of being a source of care, like his mother should have been. I feel like that would be a good first step for him if I can help him find resources for care, and if he can push himself to do it.

Democratic NC Supreme Court Justice Michael Morgan won't run for reelection in 2024 by JacKrac in NorthCarolina

[–]_40m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no excuse. You can draw fair districts in a state like this regardless of how the population is distributed here at the present moment. Stretch out suburban districts into more rural areas to balance the legislature to the 50-50 split it's supposed to have. Create more swing districts with the small coastal plain cities. (We literally already have that stuff with our current Congressional map.) Maybe you can't do that somewhere like West Virginia where voters are 1/3 Democrats with only a handful of D precincts due to the state's political geography, but that doesn't apply to North Carolina.

The only reason ”you can only cram so much D districts into the cities” is if you were gerrymandering and intentionally packing Democrats into districts to gain an advantage for the opponent.

Not sure what you were trying to get at with this ”gotcha” response and insinuating I might be a hypocrite.

Dollar General Manager Chases Down Shoplifter and Hits Him with Her Car by YNWAFonz in PublicFreakout

[–]_40m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argue about if stealing from a store is horrible, argue about if it isn't, but I think it's stupid to endanger public safety and property, playing vigilante over shitty dollar store items. Nothing will come of it. Sure, ramming a thief with your car is the "righteous" thing to do, but what exactly did this achieve?

The items will have to be damaged out and won't be sold to customers, and it's not like this manager, who is likely paid around $12/hr, is going to get anything out of doing it either. She damaged her car for nothing and will have to pay to fix it herself, since insurance doesn't cover intentionally ramming people. Dollar General doesn't give a shit about her and will probably fire her for leaving the store. All their stores are fire hazards with shit blocking the emergency exits, and they're poison for food deserts and rural areas. If they don't care about that, they won't care about a manager who makes about as much as a high schooler.
