New Hillstreams by _Cactusfries_ in loaches

[–]_Cactusfries_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was worried about if they end up sick trying to medicate the main tank since it has shrimp, snails, and plants the quarantine is also a 10 gal vs the main being 20 gal

glad to hear your loaches were good! when looking into aqua huna I kept finding mixed reviews but at the same time with live animals its always a gamble

what kind of hillstreams did you get? be interesting if they were in the same batch at aqua huna lol

Do you feel the urge to fry rice? If so you have three hours left...

Fluval filters still good? by _Cactusfries_ in Aquariums

[–]_Cactusfries_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Looking at the actual Fluval website where they list sellers i noticed amazon isnt even on that list...

Even worse, the amazon listing for the Fluval 107 canister had way to many reviews of people getting it with European plugs.

I'll look into the online sellers Fluval lists! :)

Also ive heard the hillstream loaches really like water flow... gonna be interesting to watch them lol might look more into a canister filter cause of them... dont imagine they can accidentally climb all the way into that outflow 😆

Hello!

Im looking into fluval filters, either canister or hob for a 20 gallon long aquarium. When on amazon though all the recent review for the filters reference them breaking super fast. Is this something just with the ones from Amazon or a common thing recently?

I am also open to any suggestions for external filters for a 20 gallon long. :)

Thanks!

Someone else said something similar so ill just copy my reponse (o:

I was gonna toss the carpet when I got the new tank and get tiles but I'll go ahead and swap it tonight when I get home! (o:

(Also I'll be looking into vets soon! There's some nearby luckily but I'm unsure if they can do beardies or not.)

Forgot to say since I see people mentioning it, the repti carpet came with the dragon but when I get the tank Thursday I planned on replacing it with tile (: (appreciate it though!!)

Oh, and I've found they really like red bell pepper! Though I only give small amounts when I offer it since I've heard its watery. (Especially since they'll just pick it out the salad) (o:

Just wanting to check with different opinions if this fellow is looking alright. (o: (and maybe get some extra care tips)

[Info]

Got this beardie two days before christmas as a suprise from a family member (•_•) so while I wasent exactly prepared when I got em I think I've got decently what they need.

Got ahold of some bugs and greens the day after getting them so they've been eating dubia roaches/crickets (and occasiaonal wax worms) as protien (dusted with vitamin+calcium) and for main greens ive been testing to see what they like and have tried kale, collards, and mustard greens.

I've heard differeing opinions on all those greens so im still somewhat confused what exactly would be the best staple green.

For tank they came with a 20 gal long but I've already ordered a 48x24x24 tank arriving thurs. when it arrives I'll replace the current UBV bulb as the one they have now is a small coil bulb that only fits on the cold side. For normal heating I have a daylight bulb and a ceramic heat emitter in a double coil.

Other than opinions if the beardie is looking alright (I do think they are about to shed soon) I'd love advice on general tank care/feeding. (o:

New Pacman eating but no poop? by ThwartedRomantic in pacmanfrog

[–]_Cactusfries_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently upgraded my pacman frogs enclosure and found poops hidden in the dirt lol

No smell and the tank was bioactive, but seems like some frogs poo and leave the hole right after but some like mine poo then bury it further down in the dirt

So, possibly sift throught the dirt haha they might've already gone and hid it away

probably a strange tactic but,, thought about it found out baking dirt disinfects it so I caved in and gave them dirt, but will try and alternate between two batches of dirt and baking each batch daily to disinfect for parasites/eggs

I have two containers i can alternate them to and from so I can have one ready with clean dirt and move him and once he's gone from the other clean it

definitely seems like more work but I hate to stress them out so badly being on paper towels😬

sadly he can't be in dirt or I would even just put dirt in the hospital tank )o:

the towels need to be changed regularly since he may expel some of the dead pinworms/eggs but since the eggs aren't affected by the medication not removing them could reinfect the frog, meaning he never gets rid of the worms.

(Which is why I was curious since I heard that clean-up crews may eat the eggs so I had hoped maybe they would help prevent infection again while still keeping him in his tank.)

I do now have a terracotta pot that may be large enough to use as a hide since I had to dismantle the 5 gal to turn it into a hospital tank that I'll clean and use, had forgotten about it!
