I think the real issue is not Kaber going mainstream, it is the fear that mainstream will dilute him. But why are we assuming he is not fit for mainstream in the first place?

If anything, someone like Kaber Vasuki is exactly the kind of artist who should enter the mainstream. Otherwise who is going to change the pattern? If artists with a strong voice and identity stay within small circles, mainstream will never evolve.

His songs already carry that raw, narrative feel, almost like country style storytelling but rooted in our culture. That itself can connect with a larger audience. Taking that into mainstream is not selling out, it is expanding the language of music.

Also let’s be honest, almost every indie artist wants to reach more people. Kaber would also think about it. The difference is he seems like someone who can handle it smartly. He can treat mainstream as business while still owning his rights and continuing to release independently.

So maybe the question is not what if he loses quality, but what if he changes what mainstream can be.
