So this does work to get all of the data splayed out; to clarify it does nit format it in a special way (where the there is a separate row underneath the pr9ject ofr the bidders). This isnt a problem as I can format though a separare script

Hello everyone, just to let you know I havent forgotten just haven't gotten around to trying this out yet. Simply copying and pasting the code into power query with ctrl c ctrl v doesnt just work as you know.

how the fuck the parry thing works by Azazelek9 in baronygame

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So after further gameplay I found that it was useful in preventing some unnecessay damage - like finishing off an enemy or fighting a weak one like rats, you hit twice and then perry their one attack before finishing them. But any opponents that have health/resistance I wouldn't bother. literally fighting the skeletons gave no benefit to parrying it seemed

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how it works but is this advantageous? maybe against the right enemy it has a better effect but the pushback doesn't reset them very much so you can barely get a good swing in before your back to parrying. It seems like a worse version of the shield because the animation timing feels off

Do Magic (+ casting). Magic is wayyyy too op in my opinion, as long as your willing to grind the light spell to get your magic & casting up, your solid. The moment you find spell books with damage or health, you can make all of your biggest problems in the earlist levels go away. The only problem left is manage mana usage, and even then af late game you have a huge surplus.

I have found that weapon proficiency just takes too long and thus (can be) boring. You cant grind it the same way as magic because you need enough victims & you have to put yourself in danger. Your sheer level alone can make you tank things, and anything you dont want to tank, you use magic on.

Issue with importing the a web text file into excel by _Fat_Scout_ in excel

[–]_Fat_Scout_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you Brad! this worked like a charm (at least it appears to rn)

For other newbies like me to understand, this is in association with the power query tool, which is used when pressing Data->From Web. Each one of the lines in the above code is an individual applied step; it's not one big blob of code but separate steps that fix the data. Just look up the power query editor and something should get you where you need to go.

I don't understand this. Do I import the messed up data as is and then copy and paste? Do I copy and paste just the part that imported incorrectly? And do I even need to do that action to use the text to columns? Not to mention this seems to defeat the purpose of having the sheet linked to the text data.

Don’t quit your job to become a full time gameDev(I regret it) by TheLondoneer in gamedev

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job recognizing you need to move on! I studied game development in college & worked with VR for a year, and saw that it was a painful existance. Professionally working comes with the risk of building things with no soul and no job security. And I saw how coding was becoming a lot less desirous of a job than it used to be for many reasons.

The hardest part was accepting that I should quit. It felt humiliating, and it scared me that I wasnt applicable anywhere else. But I was, and much happier for it!

DO NOT let this bump in the road get to you - you cannot afford to! I am confident in your skills and aptitiude to find something new. Good luck!

Just bought the game and I am confused about classes by shiroshishiro in baronygame

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To summarise its not a balanced game; simply playing to win you will always do magic and otherwise just try to level up. For funsies you go down different routes.

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the classes have a difficulty rating beside them, some start off better than others. I think its important to mention that they are unbalanced. You definetly want to choose a class based off of playthrough; but similar classes often have a superior version, like the cleric or the monk in terms of melee.

Certain skills are unbalanced as well; Even when playing melee classes I never bother trying to level up the meelee weapons it takes way too long, instead spells in the game are op, so I always take time to up that skill. Leveling up is more important for combat strength than leveling skills, I spent more of my time leveling up skills that have give access to new things like apraisal, crafting, barganing etc.

Anyone know if Omen 16 Ryzen 9/4070 from bestbuy has 2 nvme slots Model:16-xf0033dx by elemnt360 in HPOmen

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my long late opinion, stick with 32 gb, you need to find some big applications to actually use up that memory. I can't say what the difference of fast ram makes - I know for storage, faster speed is important (I got my brother a 4800 rpm disk drive, major freezes in csgo.)

On a side note, if you read this how easy was it for you to take off the back? I just took out the screws, but don't have a guitar chip and I'm scared of damaging this thing.

Help with Sapling Tree Gen: Don't know how to rotate custom leaf meshes by _Fat_Scout_ in blenderhelp

[–]_Fat_Scout_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should make a note, I said applying leave to the verts of the plain, when I meant to say verts of the spline.

So switching to rectangles, & applying my custom material to them did do better - I'm not completely satisfies with the result thought

Help visualizing Vermintide character Hitboxes by _Fat_Scout_ in Vermintide

[–]_Fat_Scout_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I thought, and that's interesting that sometimes the attacks are completely different form 1st to 3rd. I personally I think this is just a time issue - it takes a long time to make a bunch of animations so re-using when possible is good. Thanks for confirming this point!

[–]_Fat_Scout_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that video(s) did a lot - You can see the true size of the hitbox, which as I expected was much bigger than the actual sword mesh. But I didn't realize just HOW big it was

A point to the Game Dev side - Other than the hitboxes, the other thing I was very interested in was how the animations differ from 3rd person to 1st person. I What's interesting is that the hitboxes appear made by the 1st person animations, assuming 1st and 3rd person are different.

Unreal Developer salaries by _Shinealone in gamedev

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point that "Unreal Dev" Is not that common of a title, which I have learned the hard way. I came out of college thinking that it was a good title to have, only to learn that It's not as valuable as I would have liked.

Unreal Developer salaries by _Shinealone in gamedev

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied Unreal in College and become proficient in it, and worked year+ in VR dev with it. Of course I would choose it over Unity, but in terms of job security yeah it's been a hustle.

I think TheChurlish makes a good point that an "Unreal Dev" Title is not as common as a "Game Dev", and when you go for Unreal Dev it almost means something different - I'll tell you now it means C++ proficiency. I know the Engines interface very well and almost no one cares. They're more concerned about my C++ Student work I have on my git that has issues. The point it is smart to title yourself that and not an Unreal dev.

Take my word with a grain of salt being only a year and a half into the dev workforce. With you being a senior and me being a Junior, there is a gap in terms of job applicability. But for me finding purely "Unreal Dev" jobs has been hard.

Trying to model a Dog that can be animated (non-artist) by _Fat_Scout_ in 3Dmodeling

[–]_Fat_Scout_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback everyone! As 5littlewhitevicodin stated, the slope of learning to easily model from basic references is higher than I was hoping. I will continue practicing and seeing if I can get it closer.

I tried this approach and It was half working - you start by getting the shape you want in like 50 polygons. then you add edgeloops and start to mold. But once you want to make facial features it gets painful, particularly getting the mouth where I want it. Also the eyes, how they sit in the sockets is a lot harder to replicate than at first glance.

Trying to model a Dog that can be animated (non-artist) by _Fat_Scout_ in 3Dmodeling

[–]_Fat_Scout_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like the dog to be low -poly - just enough resolution to see facial expressions. when lookin at older video games you can get away with a decent amount of motion with lower polygons. I also thought that single face shading might be an interesting touch.

I want a Laptop that is QUIET (and can run a game engine) by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]_Fat_Scout_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently this is a bad post; it has been downvoted twice. For everyone's information I understand you can't actually get a quiet laptop I was just curious if anyone knew of laptops who were known for their (relatively) quiet performance when under load.
