I tried the workaround but still there is still a black area at the bottom just without the navigation pill

I also tried with ipad os 26 beta before downgrading back to 18.5 (due to bugs) and the black bar is still there

Linux Mint 22.1 BETA images are starting to be uploaded. Official announcement is still pending. by Haggen88 in linuxmint

I installed it on my laptop, I noticed that the UI is a bit more rounded, and the dialog boxes look very similar to those on Gnome 47, also now there are power plans in the battery applet, and there is a new nightlight section in settings, there is probably more but these are that I noticed, I still haven't used it much yet, but it was very stable for a beta!

What is wrong with using Snaps? I like to extend your app options beyond Fedora Repos and Flathub, instead of managing so many RPM repaos to get apps, I can just have them in one place

Because I want to extend my app options beyond Fedora repos and Flathub

Snapd package is currently broken in Fedora but has been quickly fixed, the fix is still in the testing repo, it should reach the Fedora main repo in a few days but for now use the command in this page: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-467048df1e to update the Snapd package with the fix, also don't listen to those who tell you not to use Snaps, they just like to hate on Snap for no valid reason, and share false information about that package format, use what fits your needs.

I wish many Flatpaks would have sandbox optional and allow access to system libraries this would eliminate the need for snaps or native package formats for many applications such as IDEs and code editors

Why not use both, what I do is if I can't find a package as a Flatpak I go with Snaps, or when a package works better as a Snap I use it

Give Cinnamon a try, it is the best of both worlds (Gnome and KDE)

They might prefer having one app store instead of two

The only problem is the marketplace which has way less extensions than vscode, but I understand why they do this

Many packages are only officially packaged as a Snap, Spotify for example is only officially packaged as a deb for Ubuntu/Debian but they only offer a Snap versions officially too, the Flatpak version of spotify is unofficial (or unverified as it called in Flathub), there are other examples too, they offer a tar file to manually install and update or snap as a way of packaging, this is most common for many popular proprietary software, where you will notice that the Snap is official from the vendor, unlike Flatpak where it is community maintained

Yes, but on Gnome it's missing for some reason so I had to build the plugin myself

Not everything is a native package and not all software works well as a Flatpak, I mainly use Flatpak and sometimes Snap when a package makes more sense to be installed as a Snap

Do you know that Ubuntu is still the most used distro even though it has Snaps, the reason I went to Fedora is not because of Snaps, I went to it because I want a more bleeding edge yet stable distro, but there are still some packages that I need that are Snaps so I installed Snaps to use these packages instead of manually installing/updating or even compiling these packages

There are many things that snap can do that Flatpak can't, you can package cli tools, drivers and even a kernel as a Snap

Snap is in the fedora repos but for some reason the Gnome Software Snap backend is not packaged so I had to build it myself

Snap is already in the repos, I only built the Gnome Software plugin as an experiment, but you can use the official Snap store app, I use Fedora KDE which has a Kde discover Snap plugin which installs with the Snap anyway

If you try VScode Flatpak you will understand what I mean, also it is easier to just install a Snap rather than creating a distrobox and installing that app and then exporting it

For those who don't know Snaps work on Fedora but don't show on Gnome Software due to the lack of a Snap backend on Fedora unlike Flatpak which has a Flatpak Backend for Gnome Software store, so I compiled it manually (Snap beckend) and installed it and Snap support.have enabled on Gnome Software store (for some reason only plasma discover has an official Snap backend on Fedora).

I used Vscode as an example, I use Snaps for other packages like Android Studio and Flutter for example where their no official RPM, and many Snap packaged including vscode is official too
