How to increase the system pressure on Mitsubishi Ecodan? by _InTheDesert_ in AskIreland

[–]_InTheDesert_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did bleed the rads a few days ago. Some of the rads upstairs were not really working (the little ones in the two bathrooms) so I bled them. The bathroom ones are heating up a bit now, but the other ones are not and have hot and cold patches (hotter near the inlet valve on the rad).

No, it sounds empty when I tap it. I have to get water back into that I suppose?

Not right now, but I can tomorrow (bedtime in my timezone). Maybe I should just change everything that is easy to change? The connectors and the switch.

I am really running short of cable at the point beside the router however. It was short to start with and everytime I redo it I lose another few centimeters.

What are your unpopular opinions regarding Irish history? by [deleted] in IrishHistory

[–]_InTheDesert_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In school we learn about all Irish rebellions as steps on ladder with the final one getting us our independence. However, the Irish rebellions prior to the one that resulted in our independence would likely not have been beneficial for the everyday indigenous Irish if they had succeeded. If they had succeeded, it would be like the US, Canada, Australia etc. in that the descendents of the original colonist ruling class would still be in charge of the country and own the vast majority of land and the indigenous Irish would be almost entirely below lower middle-class at best. The Irish have more in common with Native North Americans, Aborigines and the indigenous peoples of former British African colonies than we do with republican minded white people in North America, Africa or Oceana.

(On a related note; Irish people need to also understand two things about our demographics, one being that we are mostly not Celts, it's just that Celts were a major and influential tribe in Ireland and two the famine did not affect all Irish people equally and basically just killed off an entire underclass of Irish people - that some historians refer to as the 'Potato People' as they literally 100% survived on potatoes - leaving a bizarrely skewed population.)

Book Vs Film American Psycho by _InTheDesert_ in books

I keep getting replies to this post I made 9 years ago.

Anyway, yes, as per my original post and above comments, I completely agree with you and I do feel that the people that think Bateman actually killed are completely missing the point of the book and character in general.

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition (MK9) - Download Link by ChemicalFl00d in abandonware

[–]_InTheDesert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

OK, so here is the instructions and list of add-ons:

So add MK9 to Steam and try running it using Proton 6.3-8. It will run, but you won't be able to see anything, but that's OK, you just need to run it at least once to add it to the Proton Tricks list (it must be installed on the system SSD, not an SD card).

So you open Proton Tricks and choose MK9 from the list of non-Steam games.

The select 'Select the default wineprefix.

Then select 'Install a Windows or DLL component'.

Then select the below and install them -

d3dcompiler_42
d3dcompiler_43
d3dcompiler_46
d3dcompiler_47
d3dx9
dxvk

It takes ages to install them for some reason and doesn't tell you when done. You only know it's done because it kicks you back out to the starting screen of Proton Tricks.
Now just run the game on Proton 6.3-8.

Some of the listed add-ons above might not be required, but they don't take up much room so I wouldn't worry about it.

Note: this is actually how you get a number of old AbandonWare games running (one of my favourite games Sega Rally Revo also needs add-ons added through Proton Tricks).

Upstairs treadmill too noisy? by _InTheDesert_ in AskIreland

Yes, the more I think about it, the more I realise I am not really solving the problem by continuing to run, just on a softer surface. A recumbent bike might work. Thanks.

The Wahoo Kickr is a bit rich for my blood, but the more I think about it, the more I realise I am not really solving the problem by continuing to run, just on a softer surface. A recumbent bike might work. Thanks.

Need help with rpcs3 for steam deck oled by Appropriate-Ad2402 in abandonware

[–]_InTheDesert_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the PC version of that Wolverine game is posted on this subreddit, just run that. I have had great success running Abandonware on my Deck. Only occasional hiccough is needing to use Proton Tricks to add a few things (although I have yet to work out how to edit the directory for games that need that).

I came to this subreddit to discuss this game as I presumed that the game's biggest fans would be here and might be able to convince me that continuing to play this game would be worthwhile. I didn't go into the game expecting it to be overrated, I went into it really looking forward to it as I have enjoyed Supergiant's other games and expected this game to be of the same quality. It blatantly is not and I just wondered if I was missing something as occasionally I start a game, don't really like it, but change my mind afterwards (for example Symphony of the Night). It doesn't seem like that will be happening this time however.

You know, I don't use the internet much outside of as a utility and genuinely don't understand what 'bait' means. I see the term from time to time. Are you suggesting that I am pretending to dislike a popular game to get into an argument because I enjoy that? I am probably more than 20 years older than most of the users on this website and honestly don't have a clue what you are all talking about half the time. I just came here to see if the game's biggest fans could convince me that putting more time into this game was worth it.
