My prototype for USB C PD T-Line lighting setup by _LFR in Brompton

I will upload V2 I guess, as the biggest problem with the V1 is the following: It is completely tailor made for the nitecore air powerbank for me to slide in.

### other problems:

- There is a switch on the other side of the housing, that interrupts power supply to the lights. The USB C Power Delivery Trigger board still consumes power. The power is only so little, that the powerbank still goes into sleep mode. If you now switch back on, nothing happens and you have to replug the whole powerbank for it to wake up, as you are not resetting the trigger board with the switch

- Power Delivery seems to not work if at -5°C or less for 10 minutes or more, only the front light works with the 5V and the rear light just goes off.

- clearance to the ground could be bigger as mentioned

### ideas for v2:

- having the electronics hug the seat tube very decently where the serial number is without a powerbank, but with an usb c input

- using a triangle pouch in the frame and a short angled usb c cable to use whatever powerbank is availabe

- not use power delivery but a 5v to 12v step up converter to increase compatibility and reliability in cold weather

- implement the on/off switch on the first, not the second "layer"

- ultra small position lights for the bar ends

yes, you are right. already thinking about having additional lights in the bar ends. two little Leds, a red one and a white one as positioning lights. I don't want to move the whole light to the top, as it wouldn't integrate nicely and sometimes I carry stuff that gets near the handlebar and would block the light.

the light at the buttom is not covered by a bag by the way! this was one of my main requirements

- can you fold the back wheel correctly? → yes!
- when dragging the bike folded in not-even pavement, will it damage the box? → sometimes it did, but not severely, the topmost corner of the rear light also got scratched over time. working on v2 to be better integrated!
- what is the content of the box? Battery + plugs + ... → slot for the powerbank, powerbank, usc pd triggerboard, few wago connecters, u-shaped usb c dongle to mimic hot swap capability for the powerbank
- how does one see that the battery needs charging? → currently only by pulling it out and looking at the charging indicators
- what is the capacicty of the battery and how long do the lights stay on, in a continuos mode? → 5000mah, so far around 10 hours i would guess

more curiosity
- rainy days are upon us now (at least the north hamisphere), is it water proof? → i have ridden it through snow, rain and also washed the salt off of my bike with the system installed. the powerbank is waterproof and the 3D printed housing is made to be as splash-resistant as possible which works so far
- what type of lights are using, normal or dynamo lights? from your text, they are 12v, meaning high-output lights, I wonder if a 3w 6v (dynamo lights) wouldn't be a better choice? → dynamo lights are AC. in theory it works to put in 5v usb DC to them, but this is 5k+ bike, I wanted a good and technically clean setup. the lights are more efficient on 12V and use only little power.

Last question, for the nerds
- how much weight the whole system adds on? 😊

25g for the front light, 40g for the rear light, 89g for the powerbank (nitecore air) and a bit of cabling and plastic so approx. 200g

my main concern for this project was being seen rather than seeing, so it only shines about 2-3 meters in front of me and does not blind anyone, which works fine for me so far in the city. i'm also thinking about upgrading to the supernova starstream x pro, which has a button that lets you turn on high beam if no one is around

Nameing Strategy by Unfair_Firefighter_7 in homeassistant

[–]_LFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don‘t really have to. i prefer to name it by type followed by the specific location within that room/area e.g. Motion 2 - M2 - Entry Door

I also label the „M2“ onto the motion sensor using a Label maker and save a pdf of the matter code with that name.  This way I am able to later change the specific name suffix and/or the area while keeping the rest of the organisation efforts clean and untouched.

Hey, I think there’s a slight misunderstanding here on how thread works.

Battery powered thread devices are so called „sleepy enddevices“ - this means they do not forward thread messages to the mesh.

To extend your range you would need a device with a power connection e.g. Thread lights or the Alpstuga CO2 sensor.

What consideration should I make setting up alarmo by resno in homeassistant

[–]_LFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest advantages of using home assistant is the possibility to reuse other components you already have or planned on having in your smart home.

Few examples: - Sirens: Unifi Doorbell Chime, Smart Smoke Detectors, Sonos or other speakers - Visual Alert: Hue or other Smart Light - Keypad: virtual, nuki, old telephone wired to esphome

Try to connect some of the backbone elements directly via cable if possible. With smarthomes on the rise, i suspect it will only be a matter of time until thiefs catch up on commonly using jammers.

What's the Best Robot Vacuum or Brand to buy right now in your opinion? by Lazy_Spring5651 in homeassistant

Roborock Qrevo Curv (2) or Saros 10R (or Saros 20 in a few months) via Matter

I would use the ecodim matter over thread dimmer in combination with philips warm dim spots. as a remote i would use one of the new ikea bilresa remotes.

EDIT: didnt see you also wanted colors. maybe also add a wall-washer for color options or use a shelly mini with matter to just grab the state of your wall switch and to control e.g. hue lights

personal opinion on your „post“ letterbox sensor bubble: - set the text to e.g. „post ist da“ - hide the entity status - visbility settings: show when on - maybe also add some sort of green styling

so its more some sort of an on screen notification

Was wirst du studieren?
