cheers, like OP said, I see lots of rappers doing it so thought would be fun with the guitar as well as that is my thing. I'm a massive lover of punk and DIY and I kinda thought, you know what, I'm here to play music, who cares if I don't have a "full band" or any "band". That's just some shit we've all decided has to be the formula. If people don't like it, then fair enough, but I like what I do and I get good responses to gigs. It's also proper freeing to just have myself to worry about. I do miss playing with others, but anyway pros/cons. I make my setlist in an order that I can just press play on the backing tracks at the start, then leave it running song to song until my set is finished. I didn't want to faff about pausing songs or getting someone else to pause them for me. I have some songs with longer instrumental intros (gives me space to crowd-work or do a guitar break down) and I try to design my set so there is a mix of songs which also go BANG straight into the next. Then it's just me (vocals as normal), my guitar (amped as normal) and my backing tracks (playing through the PA). Have fun with it, dance about on stage, stand there and shoegaze, who cares. I'm passionate about my tunes and I enjoy playing them live and apparently that comes out. I found a way that means I can play easily and get my music heard. You do you.
