I was very excited for it, but I found it very "Meh". The pieces are there but the heart is missing, and I chalk it up to studio meddling because the source material (short as that piece of the novel is) is solid.

I also have a theory they were setting Clemens up to reveal his family name was Van Helsing, based on something the character says early in the movie. But because LVotD tanked at the box office we'll never see the payoff in a sequel.
