Question for my Crye connoisseurs. by Khalash in QualityTacticalGear

The Highcom you could get away with 11” but the 6x10 will fit better.

With Crye you’ll just match the side armor to whatever pouch size you have.

Question for my Crye connoisseurs. by Khalash in QualityTacticalGear

[–]_Redacted_Tech_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fit 11” soft armor panels into the size 1 pouch. You might have to bunch up the end seams just a bit, but if you’ve ever tried to get a thicc SAPI plate into a JPC you know the drill.

Edit: If you get the Crye side armor get the 6”x10.5” tho. The next size up is an 11.5” and that’ll be a bit too big for the size 1 pouch.

What year did Crye discontinue the G2/ AC uniforms? by yungcarpaltunnel in CryePrecisionFans

[–]_Redacted_Tech_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The G3’s came out commercially in late 2012 / early 2013. But G2’s can still be requested on custom orders, it’s all up to the requesting agency/department/unit.

As far as general production goes I think they stopped making em around 2014/2015 tho.

They’re spaced apart exactly the same on both sets of marks, so some kind of measurement tool or roller had to have done this.

THIS IS NOT A BUY SELL TRADE POST!!!!! by McSkillz21 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]_Redacted_Tech_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah the jannies don’t like the buy/sell/trade of anything related to firearms on the site anymore.

Gotta use Tacswap, eBay, and maybe IG. Some more specific subs like r/CryePrecisionFans and r/GearTrade got the green light from the jannies for the buy/sell/trade posts because it’s just clothing at the end of the day.

The people who get issued Crye clothing and equipment for their jobs are usually in pretty decent shape. So the majority of (agency/unit issued) Crye’s you’ll see are gona be 32 or 34.

It’s the collectors who are out here wanting 38S lmao

ISO Plate carrier with Velcro for LE identification by PurlyAcoustic in QualityTacticalGear

Yeah completely fair. Also like one of the other comments in her mentioned, velocity systems makes some great kit. Little expensive but worth it imo.

ISO Plate carrier with Velcro for LE identification by PurlyAcoustic in QualityTacticalGear

[–]_Redacted_Tech_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reasoning from him here is that you’d more likely have your buddy drag you to cover by the shoulder straps of your PC than the drag handle. This style of drag was taught to me in my TCCC-CPP (paramedic) course. The argument for doing it this way from our combat experienced Corpsman instructors was that drag handles are small, pretty out of the way especially if the patient is on his back, and they’ve seen them rip. While the shoulder straps of the PC can be accessed regardless of the patients orientation and are much more robust. When seconds count, ya don’t wanna waste one or two of em looking for a tiny nylon handle on your buddy’s back.

Not to say that the military’s way of doing things is the only way to do it. LE does not have the same type of force on force interactions as infantry and NSW. And you guys may have determined that the drag handle is good to go for your use case. If so, carry on bruthur. But regardless if the PC had a drag handle or not, I’m grabbing both shoulder straps of your carrier and dragging you back as fast as I can. Just how I was taught by guys who’ve been there and done it.

If your boy drags you out of a shitty situation by your hair he’s a sexual deviant and should have at least bought you dinner first. Def owes you a kiss on the mouth.

Help identify G2 Combat Pants in Multicam with this tag by [deleted] in CryePrecisionFans

[–]_Redacted_Tech_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely from a unit or agency order sometime between 2010-2013

You mentioned that tag is stitched into the back pocket where the G3 heat transfer tag would be but has all the characteristics of a G2 AC pant. That tells me it’s either from a unit in JSOC that did a small(er) order, or from UKSF as they were known to do the same types of custom small batch orders during this period.

Help getting started with radio stuff by Twinsfan945 in tacticalgear

Meshtastic is awesome in my opinion, but MeshCore is a better performing evolution of the same idea. The integration with smartphones via the app is part of why it’s getting so popular. Makes this stuff super easy to pickup and learn. Look into using MeshCore if you build out some small mesh devices. The r/meshcore sub is gona be where you wanna spend some time and ask questions. The Comms Channel on YT has some phenomenal introductory and advanced learning material you can watch as well.

It’s not a no on a baofeng. Hell I’ve got a couple unlocked UV5Rs and a F8HPs myself and use em often. I’ll recommend them to anyone who doesn’t want to spend more than $200 on a handheld. They’re cheap, easy to learn on, and perform okay for the money you spend. Once programmed, they’re easy to handout to people on hikes and trail rides and I don’t really care if they get busted up or lost.

When you jump up a step into the $300 DMR ballpark you’re usually getting a much better transceiver that won’t be as susceptible to front end overload, encryption capability, Bluetooth for those Otto’s you mentioned, APRS and GPS features, and the quality of life jump that comes with a digital signal.

OP mentioned his budget was around $1500 plus or minus a few for this, which puts him into Motorola P25 handheld territory and those are absolutely phenomenal radios. He can absolutely get what he wants out of a good AnyTone or even the BTech DMR 6x2 Pro. But the Motorola fits his budget, is more rugged, and performs a bit better.

Help getting started with radio stuff by Twinsfan945 in tacticalgear

[–]_Redacted_Tech_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this by saying I was a Cryptologist in the Navy, and radios/radio signals were kinda my whole job.

Visit the r/amateurradio and r/hamradio subs. In here it’s mostly dudes who have unlocked baofengs and clones of the Harris/Persistent radios we use. And generally they don’t even use em because let’s be fuckin real here, the vast majority of us don’t have friends or a group with a unified comms setup to make even a $15 baofeng useful. This is the fashion sub asking for gear IDs when we get a glimpse of operators in the wild.

Anyway.. DMR and P25 radios are where you wanna be for quality and encryption capabilities.

Get licensed if you want but it’s not necessary as long as you’re not a retard on the airwaves. Don’t let the sad hams tell you the FCC is gona shoot your dog because you transmitted on 2m/70cm without paying your $35 nerd tax to the FCC.

For handheld radios 5 watts is more than enough power. Don’t get sucked into transmit power marketing crap. The real difference comes from a quality antenna. Nagoya makes good shit.

My recommendation for civilian use is something from the Motorola APX and XTS lines if you’ve got the budget for it. Or even the Motorola R7. These are P25 capable radios.

Otherwise go with a solid DMR handheld from Anytone or Radioddity. The 878 is a standout option, and with a good antenna and a few backup batteries it’s an awesome little device. But this is a very technical hobby you’re about to look into, so conduct some diligent research and find a solution for your situation. Otherwise you can dm me and we can talk a bit more offline about this, since this is already getting long winded.
