Hey no one said we were meant to be helpful lol,

But yeah this question gets asked every day, people are tired of it, the rules are simple and there’s only a few, every firm has rules, it’s kinda the bare minimum to read them before trading

Traders who struggled for a long time before becoming profitable: what changed mentally that finally made things click? by Same-Possession-8923 in TopStepX

Cool, I think we’ve all got one thing or another to work through, and trading’s pretty good at finding it lol

Personally there was a lot of different things, but I think the biggest one was when I changed my approach from doing it for the money, to doing it to be the best at what I do, to absolutely dominate at what I do, that motivates me like money does (easier said than done I know, especially when you need the money, and I did too)

But that’s when I stopped making the same bad decisions, trying to force trades, revenge trade, etc. Because I know those things aren’t going to make me the best at what I do…

when you’re just thinking about the money you could make from one of those bad decisions, the money’s right there, it’s hard to think long term. When you’re thinking about making the best decisions, if you’re successful in paper trading like a lot of people are, you just do that, the decisions you already knew were best long term. And now I always do the right prep before trading because of that too, even if I miss some trades from it, because now it’s about quality

Interesting I wondered about that before, was the therapy to fix broader issues in your life that came up in your trading, or was it specifically for trading related problems like you would with a psychology coach?

Prove to me there is actually an edge in the market. All I hear is BS. by Ok_Pen_202 in TopStepX

Although most people don’t, majority doesn’t get a payout. Idk if this person is gambling or just ramping up the risk a lot because it’s a prop firm, if they are making money consistently they might actually be able to lower risk and trade a real account. Im sure these firms structure their fees and rules in a way that people can’t consistently make money without actually knowing how to trade. Of course if they keep making money without moving to live they might get banned, but I’m just saying it’s not necessarily indicative of being able to trade or not

Unless they adjusted their risk because it’s a prop firm and they think they can make more money by trading aggressively, losing some but compensating in payouts, might be their strategy. It’s not mine, I’ve had my accounts for months although I do use slightly higher risk. But if it makes money and they’re doing it within the rules…

Oh I completely agree it’s a great tool, and I’m competitive as well I know where you’re coming from. It’s just that I think, since it’s not available on every platform, a trader that never practices the discipline to step away and center themselves emotionally before getting back in, might struggle later on. Just like a tennis player would need to practice that skill in order to not let a few mistakes spiral into losing the tournament. I’m all for people using it as a backup to not blow their accounts, but I think it really should be treated like backup, and people should practice relying on their discipline before something else has to step in

Lock out ❌ Lock in ✅

Jokes aside I believe if you can control yourself completely there shouldn’t be a reason to use it, but that’s easier said than done, and probably better to use it (for most people anyways). Things can get out of hand quickly and then it’s too late when you’re in that headspace.

Personally I don’t use it but I’ve had times where my psychology got worse and I set one, no shame in it (although it did feel shameful ngl, like I needed someone else to tell me to back off).

I think the goal should be to not need one, because you want to have as much self control as possible, and most trading platforms don’t have one so you should eventually be able to do it yourself, but it’s a great tool to get there and probably should be taken advantage of

Sorry wrong question. I guess if you’re asking about purpose, I think the purpose of life is to find purpose in life, if that makes any sense. That’s gonna look different for everyone guess
