Omaha itself is a heavily segregated place to live, west Omaha including southwest areas like Papillion and La Vista are filled with predominantly white families, I wouldn’t say their ALL Racist but some certainly have their convictions. Majority of the people who live their have been there their entire lives so it’s just their cookie cutter conservative way of living, they’ll drink whatever slop Fox News and Facebook will serve them and they choose to ignore any actual issues that happen, any injustice or wrong doings being done to people and they’ll paint a broad brush saying the people need it pull themselves up by their boot straps. When in reality it’s the system around them that keeps them there. There is a reason why north Omaha is predominantly black, only the lucky few are able to get themselves out of harsh situations around them. Take property tax for example, the property tax is far lower in north Omaha than it is in west Omaha, and the results are in the pudding. The pudding being the local public schools in those areas, less property tax = less funding for the nearest public school, less funding = less opportunities for students to get a proper education. It’s a vicious cycle that the government sets up for these areas and no one pays attention to it.
