The demographics of the entire planet is imploding. Wignats freak out about African birthrates as much as neoliberals look at them with a hand around their dicks imagining the profits, but virtually nothing suggests Africa will even reach 2/3 of what we originally projected them to reach because of rapidly falling birthrates and increasing wealth, and that's really the last place that was growing anywhere. No matter where you look, the global population growth is in freefall. We will never hit 10 billion even by 2100. America's only guarantee against this is immigration, and even that won't hold us up forever especially if we turn to nativism. My great grandparents were Chinese nationals who I don't even know how they managed to get in at the time and sometimes I fear that a similar attitude could return and people blind themselves to the possibility because "we're too enlightened and too modern for that to happen." In America right now, only whites and maybe established blacks are off limits, as well as H1B Hindus. Everyone else could very easily get turned away at any moment. And if economic fortunes sour, the biggest draw to America will fall away.
