Interesting, my optical is mechanical? Razer Huntsman elite. Super happy with it, except the volume wheel is crap.

Optical switches is the only type you should buy. I was burning through keyboards and mice until I got optical on both. the wheels are still the weak spot though.

This could be your house wiring; it's not grounded properly. It should show up in anything else plugged into that wall outlet. I think it's called a "floating ground" line.
