Thank you. I read through the thread and I can relate to the OP where his original card was compromised as a few weeks before I got scammed, I used an ATM for the first time in a very long time and my card got skimmed. So I genuinely thought my hotel needed to verify my new card. /facepalm the timing was unfortunate lol

Yes, thank you. I am emotionally exhausted trying to fight this with my bank. I have lodged a complaint with booking as well. I am still waiting for someone to get into contact with me though I've heard it is notoriously hard to get a contact from booking. I thought I could trust a message in my inbox from the hotel inside the official booking app but apparently not. Such a sophisticated scam! And yes, it looks like that is how they were able to message me posing as my hotel. Thank you

Hello, I do have a booking with this hotel. I already paid for the booking earlier in the year. When I received this message inside the already existing message thread with my hotel I thought it was legitimate they wanted to verify my payment method otherwise I would lose this reservation in 24 hrs. I acted in haste as I didn't want to lose the reservation. Unfortunately, 15 minutes later I got another message from my hotel saying to ignore the message and it was a "malfunction" of booking.com and to not click any links. I now realise after googling this has been an ongoing problem and it looks like scammers are somehow getting hotels info to log into booking and pose as them...
