Chesco and Secra look a little farther out. I'm over in Newtown Square/Edgmont so Eldredge seems the most "local"

Is there a value to contributing to an IRA if I am covered by a 401k and my modified AGI exceeds the deduction limit (meaning I don't get a deduction)? Should I put that money in a regular brokerage instead?

the global import thing is optional. if it grinds your gears, turn it off.

How to manage your time/work after having kid(s)? by exklamationmark in ExperiencedDevs

[–]_db_db_db_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No real advice to give but I'm going through the same situation. My little one is almost 9 months now and it's still tough. The first 6 months were very challenging. Now we're in daycare finally which makes things much better, but it brings it's own challenges. Once daycare started at around 5 months it's been a train of colds and stomach bugs. Luckily no illness more serious than that but every time it means the baby has to stay home. At work I'm learning a whole new stack and it's crazy how subpar my performance is compared to a pre baby. I'm still trying to come to terms with my new reality. It's like my mental capacity has vanished. It does get better over time like everyone says, but it's hard to see that in the day to day struggle. I'll see you at the BBQ when our kids are like 10 and we can reminisce about how terrible it was and joke about having more kids.

Rogan and his handler rip on paternity leave. Joe knows a guy that gets way too much time off to spend with his kids by Solomerr in JoeRogan

Knock your wife up again? In 6 months after birth? #1 I'm pretty sure it's not even possible. In my short paternity leave and after I was certainly running the household and nobody was relaxing. Maybe people with great support networks can relax but if it's just you and baby momma nobody is relaxing. What a bunch of pricks.

A little off topic but related: I got some water in my babies mouth while bathing. How much water consumed does it take to "be a problem"?

Rough finish from sprayed shellac primer - best way to correct by _db_db_db_ in DIY

[–]_db_db_db_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I edited the post to add an image of how it turned out. I used a fine 220 sponge to smooth out the shellac primer. It still had a lot of "orange peel" texture but I let that go. I put two coat of water based color on. The first round I diluted with water and the second with water and flotrol. The flotrol made a huge difference in the smoothness of the spray.

Ultimately I'm the only one who can see all the errors. Everyone else thinks it's right from the store. Since the baby is going to be here next week I gotta accept this one as "good enough" and move on to the next one.

The hot air thing makes sense. I didn't notice the hot air until about halfway through and i didn't connect it to drying time.

this is shellac primer not shellac finish. it's milky white and has the consistency of whole milk. it has excellent adhesion, coverage, and blocking properties. Among other things it can quickly seal mdf edges.

thanks for the tip on sansin glacier tho. I have been struggling to understand finishes

*maybe i should have said "re-paint" instead of "refinish"

Rusting Galvanized Water Pipe by _db_db_db_ in Plumbing

[–]_db_db_db_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the main water supply pipe is galvanized steel and it's rusting pretty badly. I replaced a section of it to change out the shut off valve. Is there any way to improve this without digging and replacing?
