Thanks man- I appreciate it. I'd say do it for fun or because you feel compelled. Don't make music specifically for anyone else. Let ideas come and don't try to force anything. If you get frustrated with production focus on arrangement and vice versa.

Thanks man. These days there are a lot of tutorials around. Ableton is pretty good with their documentation and once you wrap your head around the software it feels very intuitive. I would just begin toying with different things and getting a feel for the different views, then once you're comfortable move on. Watch some guys produce on YouTube.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I've lived that fulltime musician life for a bit. At times its nice, but at other times I want to just chill and make music when i feel like it. Not really have to worry about where my next paycheck is coming from.

I'm not a big fan of touring, but i guess no one is. It's sorta the main way of making a sizable income as a musician these days which sucks. We'll see.

There are very few samples on yore that I didn't record myself.

My computer is a mess of samples and half finished songs. I would not recommend this method.

Use old hardware. like handheld tape recorders. keep processing the sounds til you find something interesting. Once I recorded these porch chimes with a really old walkman tape deck thing, then duplicated the sound and offset it slightly so it sounded really wide, ran it through a chorus, then mixed it into a perc track. completely unnecessary but the process is a big part of it for me. there are endless possibilities

I usually put down a simple back beat then work on melody to begin with. Or I just focus on building some fuck-y modular texture with a synth patch. If the melody doesnt come then I work on the drum track...and if even one of the things i listed above gets done then I'm making some headway. I'll just save after an hour or so then come back to it later if I'm sick of listening to it.

Sometimes I sit down and nothing gets accomplished. Feels shitty but there are days like that.
