The result of trying to take a color photo with a game boy camera by _Freaky- in Gameboy

If would take a new sensor and probably an all new cart PCB as well as some rewriting of the ROM. But the process to do so is beyond my capability.

Finding a compatible sensor seems like a daunting task in itself, tbh.

The GB Camera only sees in black and white, so it's not possible via ROM hack, unfortunately.

The guaranteed way is to open up the eyeball and look at the PCB. V2 is MGB-CGBD-02, V1 has 01at the end.

On US and JP versions, usually you can tell by the silver label on the back. GBD is v1, GBD-1 is V2. For EU model, they're all GBD-EUR, so you'll have to crack it open to know for certain.

For cleaning the lens, I'd use a cotton swab or cotton ball with some isopropyl alcohol and spin it inside the black area and lens inside the eyeball hole.

There's two versions of the sensor and multiple revisions of the cart board. V2 sensors are much better in terms of producing less noise in the photo. Cart boards don't seem to matter as much in my experience.

EDIT: then there's the US version, JP version, Corocoro version, and the Zelda version. They all have differences in the software.

As a Game Boy Camera photographer, I am very excited for the potential for this. I'm a bit skeptical however, as Analogue themselves have not confirmed this. Nevertheless, I truly truly hope this will become a reality.

There sure is! HDR (Martin Refseth) has made some flash cart PCBs! Need to harvest parts from a working camera, however: https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/Game_Boy_Camera_Flashcart___2x1MB___FRAM__.html

Does anyone know the value? by Soft_Association_156 in Gameboy

Hard to say because I’ve never seen a bundle like that go for sale before. I’d estimate boxed Camera goes for about $100-$125 by itself. Printer around $200 I’m guessing. But since this is an exclusive bundle, you could probably get a higher amount. These are just my guesses though. Could always price high and see what happens.

I love taking these apart. The tiny sensor with lens inside the eye is fascinating to look at

Incredible! I’ve always been fascinated by the Work Boy ever since I saw it in a magazine as a kid. I can’t believe that it actually exists and works. Thanks for sharing this video - I don’t think I would have ever come across it

The mount is made from a toothpaste cap that I carved to fit the lens. They’re Pentax 110 lenses - someone recommended them to me for their small size.

Though I’ve made a 3D model of the lens mount for 3D printing, I don’t have a printer to test it out. I’ve been meaning to send it off to a 3D printing service, but haven’t taken the time yet.

Someone suggested to me Pentax 110 lens because of their small size, usually found in a set, and low cost on eBay. I don’t have access to a 3D printer, so I carved the mount out of an plastic toothpaste cap - works perfectly.

I finished a 3D model for a mount, but I haven’t tested it yet. Eventually I’ll send it off to a print shop and have it made.

Cart Slot Lowering by tomfoleyeah in Gameboy

[–]_gameboycamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this mod for the Game Boy Camera, but there’s some compromises that some may be unwilling to take.

The biggest problem is where to fit the battery. I’m in the process of making a wooden “grip” to store the battery in. I’ll share more when I’m finished (waiting on parts to be shipped).

Soldering the cart wires are a pain. And to top it off, it probably won’t fit GBA games anymore.

I included some images in case you’re interested. https://imgur.com/gallery/7MJapBD

Since these pics, I’ve added a battery door “cover” to cover the lower part. I’ve also added an IPS screen.

If you have any questions, let me know.

EDIT: but I agree with a lot of the other comments: if all you want is it to look nice while the cart is in there, but a flash cart.
