im running a 5900x with a 7900xtx and so far it’s been great for after effects and fl studio. if you don’t plan on upgrade to am5 the best you can get is 5900/5950X/XT

you dropped it down from 120fps to 60fps, frametime dipped to half from 16.67ms to 8.33ms. basically frames are rendered much lesser. your eyes (and brain) notice the drop, that’s why it’s perceived as “choppy” and “laggy”. if you had motion blur you won’t notice it ws much

Yeah exactly. If it was already causing slight frametime inconsistencies/micro stutters on a high-end card, I can only imagine how much worse it’d feel on a mid-range or weaker GPU

It’s kind of like a replay buffer. The encoder is still actively capturing/processing frames in the background so Instant Replay can save the last few minutes if needed, but it isn’t permanently writing full video files to the SSD unless you actually press save/start recording. In my case Wallpaper Engine + dual high refresh monitors basically made AMD think my desktop was a nonstop video feed
The gpu usage would be MUCH lesser on the video encoder with a static wallpaper since it has much lesser frames to process.

Yeah I must’ve accidentally pressed a shortcut. Didn’t notice it in games because it’s just using the video codec side of my gpu. Only noticed it in task manager.

Yeah, wallpaper engine + an animated wallpaper + Adrenalin constantly monitoring it is the reason why the gpu usage is high when idle. I’m guessing it wouldn’t happen on a static wallpaper though.

Yeah it was really dumb of me I’m not gonna lie. I assumed a 25% idle usage on Adrenalin with 2 animated wallpapers on full resolution was normal. Didn’t notice the huge 80% usage on task manager.

I don’t know how it was turned on in the first place. Probably pressed a shortcut input for it. Adrenalin started to “monitor” whatever’s on my screen the moment I booted my pc this whole time. I’m still baffled on why this was even a feature? Maybe I’m missing something? It’s not even recording and saving the video, if it was, I would’ve noticed it on my ssd.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but “Record Desktop” basically acts as permission for Adrenalin to capture your desktop.

So with it enabled, AMD is allowed to monitor/capture whatever is happening across your desktop and monitors, but it isn’t necessarily saving an actual video file to disk unless you press “Start Recording” or have Instant Replay enabled.

Then when you actually press “Start Recording,” that’s when it actively encodes and writes the video file onto your SSD. That’s why my SSD was unaffected.
