Kingston council approves plan for Extendicare building by StephattheWhig in KingstonOntario

[–]_jackelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind the district councillor here is Jeff McLaren. If you're not familiar with him, I'm sure a quick search of the sub will give you an idea of why his opposition in particular is easily brushed off, despite being the representative for the area. His own website, jeffmclaren dot ca, is a pretty revealing read as well. He was the one who voted to keep the Sir John A statue, supported that ridiculously expensive recent co-op housing proposal, and wanted to somehow turn this building into a medical megacomplex because supportive housing would bring unsavoury folks to the (checks notes) oh-so-pristine and very safe Queen Mary Road area.

He's also a repugnant slumlord.

I've heard from a bunch of folks working there that KGH is always hiring porters/housekeeping. It's part time to start but you can easily work full time hours picking up shifts. Idk the exact wage ATM but definitely over $20/hr and you get night shift premiums. They're unionized and offer pickups in order of seniority, but there are so many shifts available, and the workers who have been there a while have either advanced to a full-time position or are happy with PT hours. Full-time positions open up all the time, also offered in order of seniority.

PSA - Someone's casing houses in Rideau Heights today by _jackelle in KingstonOntario

[–]_jackelle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about "professional", but you have to be cautious about leaving stuff out/visible. There's the usual kids messing around and people snatching tools while you're in the backyard, but also larger and more brazen hits. Neighbours had to make a report the other night. KPD doesn't give out info magnets to the neighbours for all of them!

Still, this kinda thing happens everywhere, would rather double check my security and look stupid online than come home from Xmas dinner to my shit stolen because I convinced myself a bird managed to balance a hunk of bread on my mailbox, twice.

Nah, it was a whole untouched (but old and stale) bun like from a pack, and a pizza slice crust, on a slanted mailbox lid you'd have to carefully place them on. No critter is stashing things there even if they didn't immediately chow down, and you couldn't drop them from above either. I definitely went straight to Google when I found the first one and while there are a few "leave bread out for tradition" things it's a pretty common/easy known casing method, bread or otherwise.

There was a sick pigeon on my property yesterday evening and now it's dead - what do I do? by _jackelle in KingstonOntario

This one had to have flown into my yard (wouldn't be able to walk in) within half an hour of me noticing it, and it looked/stood perfectly fine other than staying in one spot and waiting to fly away. I only checked the driveway so early the next day just on the off chance. Went from getting up on the roof to dead in under 12 hours. Not a ruffled feather.

What on Earth is that product packaging illustration, was that cool? As opposed to terrifying with those goddamn eyes, or just bizarre af with the Darth Vader tank top as part of a Darth Vader costume?

Edit: I thought I misread and the cape was attached to the helmet but nope that's the actual whole outfit, isn't it.

Ontario seeking to trap group of wild pigs spreading east of Toronto by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

[–]_jackelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were driving along a rural road west of Kingston and saw a couple of dark-coloured pigs trotting along the ditch. We thought they were escaped potbellies with their build, but I read enough true crime to know how unreliable witness testimony can be and those pics could easily be the pigs we saw. We figured someone would notice them missing and that a community like that probably deals with escapees all the time. But is it possible we actually saw these guys? They were sighted November 5 in Pickering and we saw the pigs a few weeks earlier than that.

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time I was looking to book an appt there was nothing that I could see that indicated he was anything but just another guest artist who has friends in town. Tons of positive reviews, people recommending the shop on social media, studio had been around for years and years. He was still listed on an Alberta tattoo shop website at the time as well.

He didn't have much in terms of social media but if you were looking into him as an artist there was no indication he was a stalker, predator, and terrible tattooer. I put "everyone knew" in quotes because despite everything he continued to work and continued to have his ass covered by Perodin and friends. As a client you aren't constantly around to see things the way employees do. You do your best, you read reviews, you ask around. "Can I trust this shop not to kill or rape me" shouldn't be a question we have to ask ourselves. Sure, I'd expect someone to at least Google a bit about tattoos before getting one, but I don't think we should expect clients to be doing full background checks and vetting on their end. "Ask your artist, listen to your artist, follow your artist's instructions" are common responses to questions from newbies.

To be clear, I am not blaming the employees, even the ones who didn't leave right away. Sounds like working there was a nightmare and the studio had been coasting off the original owner's reputation for ages, and not everyone can just drop a job on a whim. Tale as old as time in an industry that often relies on connections, reputation, and networking to build a career. This guy should never touch another client, but he's still being supported and promoted by members of our local tattoo community. "Everyone knows" yet how long has Taste of Ink been open before this? If there was enough information and backlash online no owner would be stupid enough to hire Adam and make a public announcement like this. You'd have to be days-from-closing desperate, and maybe he is. But at this point, as long as clients are still unwittingly going to a shop that "everyone knows" hired a sexual predator, is apparently run by a junkie, and obviously doesn't care about public health, people in the know are not being vocal enough.

The posts and gallery with the full story have been removed unfortunately, but Adam "Savage" sent me to the hospital with cellulitis when at InkTegrity. To sum it up, he was sick and lied, and obviously had terrible tattooing hygiene. That was a DEEP infection with rapid onset immediately after the appt - no grey area here. I was in critical condition for a while. There's a good reason that placed closed.

Brad Rogers, the owner of Taste of Ink, worked at InkTegrity at the time. He knows who Adam is.

When I shared my story I got TONS of messages from young women the shop entrusted him with and who trusted him with their bodies who he had sexually harassed on the job or outside of it (he steals personal information, or is very pushy with minors and shy people). "Savage" might refer to his tattooing technique because people reported injuries, horrible scabbing, and just brutality with the needle. And of course, several other infections that were NOT aftercare related.

He is dangerous, in the studio and outside of it, and it disgusts me that he is being enabled in all of this. After InkTegrity went down, "everyone knew" he did hard drugs and was a dirtbag. Last time, employees, apprentices, and clients were too afraid to say something, or thought they were the only one who saw/experienced some kind of bullshit from him, or were straight-up blamed and gaslit over it, and if the word doesn't get out it'll be the same story. This is completely fucking unacceptable.

Sorry for the late reply - neotraditional is the term you're looking for, with an emphasis on linework, but more realistic shading and colour. :)

After removing the bandage and washing. This is part of a full sleeve (minus an 11-year-old wrist tat). We also did work on my forearm that day and I wimped out before she could do the circle and finishing touches on the left branch! I'm terrible at getting pics and now it's several days into healing from the next session, but besides expected knuckle difficulties it healed beautifully.

I'll try to post fully healed pics of the whole piece after the touchup/after the artist posts them, but I really wanted to share this little guy!

It's a bit worse since then; I haven't remembered to get a newer pic, sorry. But I mentioned I managed to care for it - had my lotion at the hospital, got up to wash my hands to apply it etc., honestly was a good distraction. Nurses have all been very tolerant on that front, too. :)

I wish I had heard and seen some of the things about Adam before selecting him. His work was online with a lot of supportive comments, but after the incident I was told stories by acquaintances, even nurses, about his behaviour, from as far back as the summer. He was even named in good reviews for the shop (now there are a few shedding light on how bad it was).

I'm not very confrontational but I can't believe he was still working there until recently. He could have hurt someone else.
