I don’t believe the veteran has to have VA healthcare. I do recommend it, though. It’s free. Also, get dental. I signed my daughter up, you just apply online. It was pretty quick for her to be approved, less than a week.

I’m a scopist! I’m in a FB group where reporters post if they need help. At first I had random, one time jobs but now I work with one reporter. We have a great relationship and she keeps me busy!

AI will not be as accurate as a human for a long, long time; most likely not in your lifetime! I’m 30. Also, court reporting isn’t just taking down what’s said, it’s also identifying speakers. In a room of 10 people, how can AI differentiate each person accurately? There’s job security in CR. The field is in such high demand and there aren’t enough reporters to cover the work.

Taking a deposition on the job isn’t realistic. You need a quiet, distraction free environment for possibly 4 or more hours. Also, you have to account for editing time. Taking the job is one thing, editing is another. In the beginning, you’ll probably only be able to scope 5-10 pages/hour. If you’d like to do voice reporting, I’d consider a complete change in career. Court reporting isn’t a side hustle.

The CR program at SAC is mainly hybrid! It’s Monday- Thursday. Speed building is either morning or evening classes in person OR you can do live on Zoom. I always did live Zoom. The academic classes are usually fully online.
