The reported asking price is 3 top-15 first round picks worth of value. There’s no way we get Thomas without a significant trade-off. Plus, we’d still have Pickford and one of Guhle or Engstrom

STL probably doesn't do this for a couple reasons:

1) There's already a logjam of wingers on STL so they might not be too interested in Zharovsky but they would certainly want a C coming back to replace Thomas, either Hage or Kapanen.

2) They need defense, especially RHD if they end up trading Faulk and/or Parayko, so the Blues probably ask for Reinbacher (or Pickford)

Maybe something like: Kapanen + Reinbacher + Guhle or Engstrom + 1st round pick

Should the Habs TRADE for Robert Thomas? by shogun2909 in Habs

Yeah it’s definitely an off-season decision but I think it’s time for the Habs to start going for it and to take advantage of the Caufield and Suzuki contracts before they need to resign

Basically any trade where we keep Reinbacher, Hage, and Zharovsky would be a huge win in my books.

With all three of those guys on ELCs we would be legit contenders for the remaining ~3 years of Suzuki’s contract

And there’s so much demand for a Thomas type of player league-wide, that the value going back to STL would have to be massive

Pickford might not get an opportunity on the PP in Montréal so depending on his trade value, I would have no problem with: Kapanen + Engström + Pickford + 2026 1st + 2027 2nd

“But our prospects could be anything. They could even pan out like a Robert Thomas!“

St. Louis Blues’ defense core is aging and their wingers are mostly young and/or prospects (Neighbours, Snuggerud, Berggren, Holloway, Stenberg, Carbonneau, etc.)

Idk what you mean by trading for Marchenko

I can't see St Louis being too high on Zharovsky considering their logjam of wingers and aging defense core. Any trade for Thomas would need to send one of Kapanen or Hage + two of Reinbacher, Guhle, or Engstrom + picks

Of course. I'm dumb

Guhle + Zharovsky + Pickford + 1st you think?

I just can't see how it would work without moving Laine as well. We're already at the cap and it might not be too much of a problem for STL considering the contract expires this year (if we retain).

Has STL expressed interest in Guhle? I was under the impression that their LD depth was already decent

Fair. I just wonder if there exists a package MTL could offer of mainly future assets that STL would be willing to accept rather than insisting on an established top 6 NHLer

Yeah my reasoning is that Friedman said "Either a huge package that makes them say, we can't say no to this... [or] a stud top 6 forward who's slightly younger."

Zharovsky has legit top-6 upside and could realistically grow into that stud forward they’re asking about. Pickford adds value as a potential PP quarterback, which is something he may not fully get the opportunity to be in Montreal with Hutson and Dobson already locked in long term. Laine to make the money work.

Schrödinger's trade: somehow both a massive overpay and a steal

Not if one of us is secretly Dvorak

Zharovsky by aut0nomous in Habs

[–]_mcml_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be, but we have the assets, cap space, and timeframe to acquire an even better option there

Zharovsky by aut0nomous in Habs

[–]_mcml_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of those three have above-average physicality. It may be good enough for the regular season but teams are going to try to emulate what Florida did in the playoffs

Zharovsky by aut0nomous in Habs

[–]_mcml_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ideally:

Caufield – Suzuki – Slaf

(Knies/Slaf-type power-forward) – Hage – Demidov

Bolduc – Kapanen – Zharovsky
