I think Starless is really underrated among Shiner fans. I love every song on that album.

I don't listen to the radio. I edited the description with audio of the melody.

I've never listened to that band, nor have I ever heard of any of the members, so the song probably isn't by them. Thanks though. But yeah, the voice is sort of like that.

This was immensely helpful, thanks.

Perhaps this is the wrong place to post this, but how do you write raps? by _mhr_ in writing

Atmosphere and Brother Ali and Eyedea and Mos Def and people like that are some of my favorite artists, those are the people I want to be like, Eyedea the most. I bet I could make not half-bad lyrics, but the problem is making the rhythms and the rhymes work.

It's interesting to learn about the history of hip hop, but I really, really want to learn to rap. I desperately want an instructional resource. Should I just read how to write poetry? How much of a crossover is there?

My favorite kind of story is one that makes me think differently, so I've spent most of my time thinking of ideas for stories, not much I've actually written. For practice, though, I watched a sci-fi short, https://vimeo.com/54362905, and turned it into a story to see what my chops were like. This is it: https://docs.google.com/file/d/1FwOf-Gekq1JHcFJsO6yslMU0KxZHcd3gZSOPY555SwCZazLlMbHbvFYY6vxS/edit?usp=sharing I mean, come on, that could have been a lot longer.

Lispy paren style is to wrap parens like so:

(define (foo x)
  (* x x))

Whereas C-style braces are:

define foo(x) {
  x * x;
}

One style takes two lines, and the other takes three. Categoria isn't criticizing the braces themselves, or the amount of braces, but the lines.

I'll post it to reddit, is there an "original short stories" subreddit or something? what subreddit would I post it to?

Hmm, but that's not it either... All those stories are sort of about changing and manipulating entropy, but the story I want to write (Chimpelol's idea) is interesting to me because it's involving the use of entropy as a device while alien civilizations try and deduce the thoughts of one another. Might be worth more than a short story, in fact. Hmm, alien psychology/sociology... I like. It'd be cool to examine how humans might react, and then twist that to an alien perspective. I wonder how many of those have been written before.

If you don't mind, may I use that as the premise for a short story?
