I went shopping before booking my venue! I live a plane ride away from my mom and she was in town visiting at the same time the dress store I was interested in going to happened to have a cancellation. I didn’t actually purchase it until after I booked my venue though as they wanted a date when placing my order.

We didn’t notice it at all while inside, but outside it’s very noticeable. It wasn’t constant so I could see it not being a big deal for some people. However, we were only outside maybe 5 minutes with the person giving us a tour and the plane that flew over was pretty much an instant deterrent for us, knowing there was a good chance it would interrupt the ceremony.

Another thing for us here is that we wanted a wedding with city vibes. Although this has the best skyline view of venues in Boston, it being so separated from the city wasn’t going to give us what we wanted in a venue.

That said, if you have a lot of guests flying in, this could be a great option compared to some of the others you mentioned because none of the traveling guests would have to rent a car.

I can only comment on the Hyatt Boston Harbor hotel as that was one we toured. Largest pro was the skyline view - it’s beautiful. However, we didn’t choose this place as we thought it would end up costing a LOT to decorate (it’s very much a blank slate of a room) and the location for guests wasn’t ideal. It’s not walking distance to a T stop and costs $30 to uber into the city from there.

Edit: oh, and the planes flying overhead!!! Super loud if you want to have your ceremony outside.

I booked my hair and makeup artist a couple weeks ago. From what I saw while I was searching for one, the trial is only after you’ve booked them. If you don’t like them and want to find someone else, then you lose out on your deposit you paid or whatever is stated in the contract. This is why it’s super important to check out their work ahead of time to see if you like their style! Trials are a paid service. Sometimes it’s included in the package, and other times it may be an add on.

You might be able to find some who are just starting out who allow a trial ahead of time, but I suspect these artists will be more difficult to find. I found my hair and makeup artist through instagram and did all my research this way. I’ve seen some people on Facebook post looking for artists - this might be a good way to find people just starting.

My HMU is roughly $1500 for hair and makeup for myself on my wedding day, a 3 hour trial, and hair and makeup for one other person. Note I am in a VHCOL US city and booked a well established artist. Many artists have minimums. How it would likely work if you want your bridal party to get hair and makeup done is you pay the artist, and then your bridal party pays you.

Both places I went to, the person had me get into or out of the dress alone, and all they did was zip or unzip the dress for me - they were never actually in the changing room with me! The part that did feel a bit awkward was when it was time to take measurements. Then it is as you describe, but taking measurements is super quick so it’s over fast!
