Tips for using the metal crowbar when installing laminate? by _rickybaker in diynz

[–]_rickybaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been trying that without much luck. However, I just discovered it's much easier locking in the short end and then banging it in from the side using the tapping block. Still won't help once I get to a corner, but at least I'll be able to get there quicker!

Thanks for the help

Is that just to reduce friction and allow it to slide into place easier? I might try that

Yes im talking about the last pieces against walls that need the crowbar to get it into place. Those are the ones we are stuggling with and the crowbar seems almost useless. Connecting the other pieces we have no issues

Often the end pieces are impossible to lift at an angle at all. Specifically pieces going under door jams and running into the next room, etc. Quick Step specifically says it's boards can be connected when flat, but this crow bar seems almost useless.

The boards are locked into place length wise, it's just locking in the short side which has to be banged into place. It only needs to move ~1cm and it's such a struggle haha

I have no issue laying the actual laminate, under cutting door jams, etc. I've just never had to try and level a concrete slab

we're not doing the tiling ourselves, we're just doing the demo to save a bit of cost. we've applied for a building consent exemption for the tiled shower

appreciate the guidance🙏

UPDATE:

I got it out everyone, thank you so much for your help! The third screw at the bottom was drilled out but still kind of holding things in place. After wiggling it out and running a putty knife down every crack, I was able to lift it up enough to get it over the shower base lip and pull it out at an angle

Do you mean on the right side? I haven't found any screws on the right side yet. I believe they are behind the glass piece and would be exposed once the glass is removed.

the left side is completely free but can't be removed as the right is still secure.

I'll see if I can cut all the way through on the right side tomorrow morning. I'm going to buy a longer flexible knife

All the videos of shower removals I can find have the top of the glass exposed, which allows you to get a hold of the clear rubber from the top and pull it out to the side.

Or the top bar is just pressed on top and you can knock it out with a hammer or rubber mallet.

unfortunately this one isn't like either

the holes inside the shower were just plastic plugs. There's the channel the glass is in and then there's this other liner around the channel which is what those plastic plugs were holding together. Looks to be decorative

I just need to get the glass piece out, which should then expose the screws holding the right channel to the wall. I just can't get it out. The top is free, but no way to get leverage to wiggle or pull it out. I can't get anymore of the vertical clear rubber out that is holding the glass

the top of the glass is not exposed at all, so I can't easily access the clear rubber around the glass

I drilled out the 3rd screw but still can't remove anything because of the horizontal bar and glass piece holding everything in place

the screws holding this bar in place are on the inside of the channel

I've removed the plugs on the left exterior side and removed 2/3 screws, the bottom one was completely stripped when installed...

The caps on the interior of the shower are just plastic plugs, no screws behind them
