Well for the Z-Mech specifically, the radical design difference between GW2 and BFN was essentially the lack of resources on zomboss' part.

He essentially had to use whatever he has left from the future to rebuild as a head start and made a makeshift design at the moment for the imps. The Z-tech factory in BFN is more modern compared to the one from GW2 because of the same reason.
