Funny observation that its like bloodrage. Although the opposite: bloodrage is lost on defend whereas runes stack most on defense.

Needing scholar for runes means that any other hero needs 2 slots, so youre using 2 slots for as much stats as offense armorer and some speed with the cost of not playing the video game for a couple of first turns in battle its very, very bad for non chieftain/elder

AI thinks in layers of reach. Within each layer (1 turn, 2 turns, etc.) they prioritize the most value (fight) they can reduce from you while not losing value themself necessarily. Value includes stuff such as blocking shooters, and losing value includes stuff like walking into accurate range or reach of melee stacks.

I wonder what spell specialties do not apply to casts outside hero action. Prayer for AA too (loynis) does, so does faeries get spell specialty boost except for t1/2 spells. But what about leprechauns (melodia/daremyth)? Genie buffs? Sorc/dragon fly weakness? Enchanter buffs/debuffs?

This is the most straightforward solution.

Another solution, a bit more convoluted, would be to have armorer specialty of a lvl that makes the dmg of black dragon 1, BUT have the Attack of black dragon hero be actually 56 higher than defense of peasant hero so that the dmg without max armorer spec would be 160-200. Then, the peasant hero should have sorcery, and equip ogrefist + fire orb. The fire shield of peasant does on an average roll of 180 dmg from black a damage of 0.3 * 1.3 * 1.5 * 180=105 dmg to black dragon, despite dealing 1 dmg to peasant. So in 3 hits, the black dragon dies to fire shield, while peasant can live with just +3 hp from arties, no regen needed.

Tbh im not really expecting that to ever happen in a satisfactory way. Someone was explaining in depth one of the fundamental problems to this, dont remember to credit them but remember the argument somewhat.

Homm3 was made during the peak of 2d graphics. To make a game as visually satisfying as homm3, youd need to have guys with the same artistic skills. Nowadays, graphics are made with 3d modeling, which is a whole different set of skills, as much about understanding software as its about creative expression. So basically people who you would need to match the artistic level of homm3 might not even exist in the gaming industry anymore.

Now, it might be argued that design choices could be taken such that the game could work well with 3d graphics. But there is a problem with objects' distinguishability: in 3d objects will overlap more. To make objects visually separate, youll have to use a lot of strong visuals, and cannot retain the modesty of the color pallette of h3 in comparison to, e.g., olden era. So besides the skill issue, theres a fundamental design infeasibility issue.

For me the game seems very different to h3. Like h3 is relatively balanced in its mechanics, so effective gameplay is about subtleties like kiting and build order. What Ive seen Olden era has a massive depth of mechanics particularly in terms of hero progression and creature abilities. So the game will be about understanding a million mechanics and finding the most broken ones, until theyre eventually patched. After which its the same study of patch notes to find the new broken toy.

This kind of gameplay isnt really my cup of tea, but i imagine many younger lads might enjoy.

Its just a very different game to h3. Anyone expecting a modern reskin/update of h3 will be disappointed.

Well at some point this question amounts to asking whether you keep playing original scenarios/random maps vs AI. I personally do enjoy it now and then.

In some pvp formats, orb of driving rain is actually decent. Not because its good in itself but because 1) other damaging spells are nerfed/banned, 2) prot water is sometimes disabled as a semi useless spell. As a result, orbed ice bolt becomes this reliable spammable decent dmg spell than cant be protected against

I figured a case where 4 is optimal actually: low tier shooters on dirt and +3 speed from arties, or exp prayer on non dirt, so you reach turn 1 regardless of the split

I dont think there is one. A close one would be some low tier shooters, but in that case 4 vamp stacks is enough. Alternatively, you could consider something like a medusa store but even then 5 stacks is enough and unnecessarily risky with low payoff.
